    Is the manta really overpowered?

Might as well make a poll and see what happens.

I have already stated on several occasions that it is not overpowered and people need to adjust and learn how to beat it.

Different things are powerful in different hands.

I'm for no, but I can definitely rack up some easy kills with the thing. It does feel too easy, but that's until I get blown away by an AVRiL or something.

People saying it's not overpowered are clearly fools. I can also say stupid things like let's give everyone a redeemer when they spawn and get use to it.

It's not really the manta that is overpowered but the weapons while on foot that are too weak on the Manta. That's why in 1.1 the Shock, Stinger and I think Flak, will do a little more damage to it and that's a **** GOOD thing!

It's not overpowered, however the fact that IT MAKES NO NOISE is ridiculous. I really hope Epic does something about these horrible vehicle sounds!!

Ya, I'd like to see more noise from it, but honestly, I think much of the Manta Overpowered argument is coming from people comparing it to the 2k4 manta. Personally, I think that suddenly we have some more vehicles in the mix that can take even less of a beating than the manta and it's making it seem that way.

That manta is a tough vehicle now, but with all the heavy weaponry in the field with the darwalkers, goliaths, the other Necris tanky thing (still learning the names, sorry) you've got to be able to counter that stuff.

Mantas still don't last long in the field, but they are definitely more to contend with than they were in Onslaught in 2k4.

its not overpowered imo, scorpions, raptors, avril rockets or a flak cannon can get it pretty quick, also a bit sideway jumping makes it hard for them to run over you =p its the best vehicle ever invented though!

I don't think it's so much that the Manta is overpowered (it is, albeit slightly, due to the plasma ROF), but moreso a problem in the fact that the Manta is dead silent and AVRiL placement on maps is horrible.

There should be an AVRiL easily accessible from every spawn point, and this is NOT the case currently. I'm not saying stick the AVRiLs in weapon lockers, but at least place them around so that a somewhat smart player could find one before being spawn-camped.

The manta is just fine, except maybe the noise thing. There are so many ways to counter a manta, I don't think anyone can really complain. When used properly, many weapons are effective.

I won't say that the manta is necessarily overpowered in and of itself, but I think alll the vehicle sounds should have a greater range.

A poll like this will only demonstrate that different people have different ideas about what is "powerful" and "overpowered".

Many people will claim that it's not overpowered because:
                        • You just need to spend 15 seconds looking for the AVRiL every time you spawn and then hope you get lucky.
                        • You just need to hit it with shock 7 times in a row.
                        • You just need to EMP it twice.
                        • You just need to have half your team hose it with stinger.
                        • You can grab one yourself and take it out (after a 3-minute duel, giving up and instead deciding to roadkill the entire enemy team).
                        • Vehicles should be powerful.
                        • It takes skill.
                        • It was nasty in UT2004 too.
                        • The tank is "old technology".
                        • It just needs better sound.
                        • You must be a n00b.
In my book, all of that pretty much underlines the fact that it's overpowered, but to each his own.

Manta's fine, there are many other vehicles I'd rather not have to deal with.

The manta is fragile and have a limited life expectancy. I really don't feel that I'm killed by them more often than in 2k4. I actually find the scorpion more dangerous.

And myself it's not even quite my favorite vehicle to use in most maps. I prefer the viper, you lose some agility compared to the manta but with those high jumps and large speed when moving forward it's actually harder to kill.

Throw in the nerfs from the patch (increased damage and knock off from rockets, flak and shock) and I think it'll be perfect. Yeah, the noise's really hard to hear but it can actually be when you get used to it.

To expand a little: I find that people are generally getting really good at launching a salvo of rockets point blank in mantas. They are thus harder to kill because if you just go in their face with a manta it's a certain death. It forces you to jump and dodge around, which makes it easier for them to dodge you.

The noise it makes needs to be buffed, not much else, really.

I was used to getting atleast a killing spree when I got into a manta back 2k4, so I don't really see a problem.
