    Beta Patch 101: Spectating

    hi,

When spectating with the patch, the spectating is very strange, you can't click on the mouse and spectate a player and you can't "freelance" with the camera.

Also, when joining a server as a spectator, joining the match later as a player isn't possible.

Oh no, you say things. Do you know why i chose "beta patch 101 etc." as threadtopic?

      This is a bugreport.

Why do people spectate exactly? A lot of people were really pushing for spectator support, but I can't think of a reason why I'd want to spectate. Care to give me a little insight? :-P

Spectating is a little buggy. If you join a match in progress it works fine.

Left click to spectate a player, scroll up or down to select different players to watch.

          Right click to freelance.

Once the map ends though, spectate is broken. When you spawn in the next map your are stuck in one place and no controls work. You have to disconnect and reconnect for it to work again.

You can learn by watching the good players sometimes. Finding hidden power-ups and little tricks for maps.

              - It's funny
              - You see (e.g. in ut2k4 in assault) people who know some secrets (:P)
              - Sometimes you want to make a little break (about 5mins or so) and then you can spectate

@Absynthe: Yeah, the server i joined as spectator was just at the end of the map and then after loading the new map it was as you described.

you can also catch an aimbotter by spectating.

The reason that I typically did it in UT2k4 was when the server was full.

I'd spectate the match until someone dropped out, and then immediately join.

There's a lot of reasons, one of them is to learn how x or y player plays the game. Spectating is a good way to learn strategies and tips from the pros.

cool cool. When i used to be way into CS, i'd spectate when I was AKF sometimes. That's an easy switch though. Press M, press 3. You're spectating. Press M, press 1 or 2, you're back.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry when I see this. People said this about the "beta demo" for UT3, and all of its issues carried over into retail. Why? Because developers release their last beta build as final, and patch it later.

I won't trust the changes in this patch until I've installed the final version of it myself.

Why do you complain? it is not difficult to imagine that the devs didn't have time enough to finish the game but they are worried to improve it as soon as possible. They were not bothered in responding the feedback cause of having done, that had been a erupting volcano that has stolen them more time, which they needed to fulfill the Midway's deadline.
I have bet we wouldn't have a patch at least until February/March 2008 considering they have a lot of work pending on 360.

I spectated on a Co-Op server on a CTF map, and could only view the two flags or freelance, not the players.

(As for why I'd spec a Co-Op, I was just checking out the spec feature & what co-op online did )
