i used to think that any mouse would do. Then i bought the logitech g5 laser and my accuracy in battlefield 2142 increased 4%. Does not sound like alot, but it is a huge difference. Don't skimp on the mouse, it really is worth spending a couple of bucks on one. You will be happy with the results.

If i have any of these problems ill just return it. Thanks for the heads up.
Higher DPI does not mean "better". That's exactly the kind of ignorance that allows these mice to be sold. It only means that it's more sensitive, i.e. it divides the surface in a finer grid. So now, with a 2000 DPI mouse, you will only have to move your mouse 0.00127 cm to make your cursor move a pixel. It's useless, nobody needs that kind of precision, not even if you play 5cm/360 at 1920x1200. The majority of players uses 10-30cm/360, and the majority of competitive players use lower sensitivity. Some CS players use 80cm/360.

The truth is that there is really no "best" mouse. As long as it doesn't start skipping at low sensitivity then you can buy whatever you desire. The G5 is not necessarily a bad mouse, it's just that it's not really worth the price. Just like most of the Razer mice (which also have horrible shape and misplaced buttons). By important issues, I meant things like a more flexible and lighter cord (G5 and some Razer mice actually do have this), lower pick-up distance, better button placement, better grip, and better overall quality, or sturdiness.
But they know this; that there really is no "best" mouse, and that it's ultimately very subjective. So they try to make you believe that you need all these uber-revolutionary high tech gimmicks to compete. You don't, and I'm just here to let you know that players with cheap MS wheel mice will do just as well as you're doing with your 5 times more expensive gamer mice.

So all in all what do you think of that mouse i ordered, from the specs.
          I didnt spend allot.
I payed about the sameprice for what u can get a g5 for. I went through a vendor of mine, i didnt order it from razor. I only payed $45.
I play perfectly fine with the mouse i have now, ive never used a gaming mouse.
I the like Sniper riffel, a little to much"NOT A CAMPER" Im pretty good now. But some of these guys are ridiculous, with their sniping skills. And my current mouse isnt really that smooth when zoomed in sniping a moving/jumping target

Had an mx518 for over 2 years and i've never had a problem, great mouse... a future classic (if there is such as thing as 'a classic mouse')

My bro in law has a god awful MS IE3 mouse that feels way cheap, like empty plastic and is a ridculous shape, it's also not actually much good. Logitech all the way when mousing!

The guy that recorded that vid had way too high sens, you could see that he was struggling with it, also not a good idea to record a video with that high sens since the result as you can see is jerky beyond belief.

G5 or the very new G9, wich is very different to the older mices from Logi. Be careful: the G9 is a cool thing, but needs training.

If judged only by performance and practicality, MX518 beats the **** out of the G5 and G7. The G5/7 mices has other treats that the MX don't have thou, so it's a matter of taste in the end. Do you like racing or do you like cruising, your pick.

And it is important to note when looking into high dpi mice that you find out whether its 'interpolated' to create a high dpi. High end Razer and Logitech mice do not interpolate pixels to create high dpi, they are true to label. But beware there are many other generic mice which claim the same specs but do not reveal this imprecise method of measurement. It's about the quality of the sensor the mouse is using not just the spec sheet. ESreality has a review somewhere that tested the accuracy of several different high end mice on different dpis and polling rates (which the higher available generally the better) in the form of an actual chart plot, so you can really see how the mouse is performing on various settings and threshholds, and compare it to other mice.

Other than that it really comes down to brand reputation and ergonomic preference, as most other features of the mouse are pretty straightfoward for any company to make without screwing up.

According to that ESR review, the MX500 and MX300 at 1000Hz were the best mice. And they're 5 years old now; you can't even buy them anymore. The MX518 was excellent as well. Generally laser mice were reviewed poorly because they're expensive, and they don't perform as well as most decent optical mice (low malfunction speed).

The Deathadder was very good as well. I tried it myself, but I didn't like it. I use a little tool to determine if my mouse movement translation is linear, and I couldn't configure the Deathadder in any way that it completely removed acceleration, unlike with the MX518 or pretty much any other optical mouse I've used. Also, I don't like the loose feel that high DPI mice have. With the 518, MS wheel mouse or MS 3.0 I don't get that at all. They seem much more responsive and tight in control. One problem that I've noticed on all the laser mice I've tried is that they have an annoyingly high pick-up distance (i.e. how high you have to life them before they stop tracking). This is particularly annoying for low sens players (I play with 30-35 cm/360, depending on the game).

MX518 is still the best value for money IMO, if you're comfortable with it's shape. Better performance than everything except Deathadder, but it's twice as cheap. It's got all the features anyone would need. DPI switching (like anyone uses that...), 2 thumb buttons, sturdy case (not even angry German kid could break it).

Great mouse, when my Logitech MX518 wears out I plan to get another one! I'm on my second one now over the years.
