    Having a problem with installation

During the installation of UT3 I decided I would uninstall the UT3 demo. The UT3 demo uninstalled without a hitch, and I knew after closing the uninstallation window that the installation of UT3 had gone far too fast for an 8gb game, but Install Shield said the installation was complete. I then try to boot up the game, and nothing happens. The directory that I had assigned for the installation didn't even exist.

I am no longer even given the option to do a fresh install. The two options I have from the auto-launcher are: Play game (which does nothing) and Uninstall game. I've tried uninstalling the game several times, and I'm always presented with the same error, and program browser says the game is installed:

I've searched with Google to find out more about the error type I'm getting, done everything the tutorials have told me to do and I still can't progress any farther in the uninstallation of this game than I could before.

    Here's the error I get:

I'm by no means computer illiterate, and I've tried the obvious and not so obvious solutions that would work in most situations, but still no progress. I have no idea why UT3 is still showing up in my programs window, even though it's nowhere to be found.

    Can anyone help? Thanks.

    I'd suggest a manual uninstall.
edit the register, and search for any files of UT3 on your system, and remove them.

Google Installshield and the error number I think they have their own support forum too.

      For a start read this:

Glad to see someone else was encountering the same error I was, and I tried what you recommended, Hickeroar, but there's one key I can't delete. It says I need to make sure I have the rights to delete this specific registry key. I'm on Vista.

Did you have a similar problem?

I changed my administrator rights in regedit to gain access to delete the registry keys. I've deleted all the keys I can find and I still can't uninstall/install the game. The only difference between now and yesterday is that UT3 is no longer listed in my installed programs list.

I'd really love to play this game, but I'm all out of ideas. I really don't want to reformat my PC just to play this game.

Since I don't have UT3 yet, I can't give you exact instructions, but...

Try this (At your own risk!):

              1) Go to this hidden folder: C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information

              2) Look in each sub-folder for some evidence that the sub-folder is related to the UT3 install. Open setup.ini in notepad, for example.

              3) If you find the correct sub-folder, delete it. DO NOT DELETE the entire parent folder. DO NOT DELETE any sub-folder unless you are %100 certain it is the UT3 sub-folder.

              4) Re-install UT3

              5) Post back if it worked or not.

I'm VERY surprised no epic person has showed up with a way to force-reinstall the whole game.

That's because this is a bug caused by Installshield, not Epic. The uninstall of the Demo at the same time as the install of the Full version should have been caught by Installshield.

maybe so, but the modern way of doing things where you can't completely reinstall anything just sucks. You get "repair" and "remove" generally or the thing just assumes if you run setup again with it installed, you want it UNINSTALLED. It's moronic not to allow a user to do a complete and fresh reinstall of an application over a previous installation.

If the install was working, a "Repair" would do a fresh reinstall over the existing. In this case, it is broken. So yeah... it would be preferable to just ignore everything and force the install.

                          goldsoundz, I have another idea.

Do not install using the auto-launcher. Open the install DVD and launch the install program (setup.exe?) directly and see if it behaves differently.

cybnetic, are you still getting error 1335 even when installing from the hard drive?

As a long shot, empty out your TEMP folder and try again. To find your TEMP folder type "%TMP%" into the Run command on the start menu.

The other explanation is bad RAM memory. Every time the install program uses the bad part of memory, the files get corrupted. It would explain the randomness of the error. Test RAM quickly with MemTest, it's free:

There is more RAM test info here:
