Demo vs Final performance, anyone notice a difference?

I just got the retail version of the game, I had the demo and it ran ok, but I'm curious to see if the final version runs better or worse than the demo on the same settings/maps. I heard something about the textures being higher quality on the final version?

it ran slightly more smoother for me then the demo, DM-Deck runs bad for me tho, its playable but thats just my comp. The water effects slow me down but i like eye candy

You can set the texture quality, you're not forced to use the more detailed ones if you're lacking in power.

not really, then again I got a quad core with a 8800gtx so I probably wouldn't notice all that much of a difference

The demo only had compressed textures to keep the size of the download down so that obvioulsly had an effect on performance, I am looking forward to seeing the uncompressed textures but wonder how it will perform. The demo was slick imo!

I played the demo and not the full version. The demo looked "washed Out" with the compressed textures and the full version looks fantastic. Runs way better on my machine also.

                  Huge performance improvement.

Im not going to say i gained 20 frames, but biggest difference ive noticed is that it does not dip down to the 29s and 30s like it did in the demo for me, now its more consistant.

                  P4 HT @ 3.6ghz
                  2gb DDR400
                  ATI HD2600 PRO @750/1150 (512gddr3)

I get anywhere from 40-60fps with everything max @ 1280x1024.

I plan on upgrading to a 8800GT within the week, so i can get 60+fps

Umm, it's true since the HDD/CPU have to uncompress them but if the uncompressed textures takes more than 256MB on ur 256MB video card, it will lag even more, no?

Wow, sounds too good too be true. I have a computer much better than yours and in the beta demo, I would get nowhere near 40-60fps on 1280x960 0xAA 8xAF all textures on max... in Shangri La. So it can't really get 2x better in retail, mostly that retail versions goes up to very high instead of medium quality.

                    Question:
                    - The reason why it looks uglier in the BETA DEMO, is it because it's limited to medium quality, or it's still very high quality but very compressed? It's getting quite confusing.

Believe it or not, im still getting my frames. Notice that i have my videocard overclocked like crazy, and without any AF or AA, what's not to believe?

your res is lower than mine 8|

how about the performance maxed out with 16qaa/16af on high end rigs with a 8800? smooth at higher resolutions like 1600x1200?

gonna get it tomorrow and i want to enjoy it to the fullest

I don't know a single game after the UT1~ era what would run smoothly with those settings.

half life 2/far cry run perfectly smooth, but sure, a 8800 gtx is ahead of their time
