It does not specify what you shoot with so as long as you view the game through the first person and shoot stuff then there is plenty of room for creativity, where the hell you've plucked "you run on 2 feet from" I have no idea what relevance has that got?
When the term for the group of games was coined it was about "Running-and-Gunning" (where 2 feet comes into play), and it wasn't supposed to be that specific so it couldn't be bent at to include a reason for vehicles as they probably never imagined anything like it. That's where you really have to think to yourself does the term belong to a game where half the time you aren't going to be "Running-and-Gunning", instead actually whoring a vehicle. Vehicular Combat would be more appropriate, or even VCFPS, I really don't care. This all came from someone suggesting he wanted to see more vehicle deathmatch maps.

I like it, it gives the map a bit of a swing. It's not like every deathmatch map has a vehicle to romp around in. Plus the way the Darkwalker is delivered to the map is pretty slick too.

How about... I like it when I have it and I hate it when I don't.

That's a refreshing view, and otherwise I agree with Xyx.

Besides, I don't really prefer Heatray over shangrila, but if I'm playing heatray, I'll take the **** walker if I can and get some sick killing sprees. Sure, maybe I would prefer to not have it there, but when it's there I'm gonna use it. It's so depressing to have idiots whine every time I get some nice sprees going in the thing when it is so easy to take down. It's basically the same people that whine when I destroy their buffed health in one shot of three rockets. Then I am spamming. Or when I "lame" them by using invisibility, 'cus that's another thing that just doesn't fit with their particular rules of the game.

Hint: The rules are that of the map, not yours. Adapt to the game or lose. And stfu while you are at it.

I think people like that are annoying and boring.

You must be a noob whoring with Dark Walker online.

It have nothing at all to do with DM, all it does is ruining the gameplay because else that map would be really good. Worst of all is that they kept it in Duel... WTF

                absolutely correct!!!

The walker on heatray is plain retarded bullsh!t... same for any other vehicle on other DM maps.

Destroys the fun and gameplay, not to forget that it has nothing to do with "skill" to win heatray using the dark walker...

Simple solution really: give an option to disable vehicles in DM. There, problem solved. Those who like it can keep liking it, those who hate it can play vehicle-free maps.

                  Perhaps a mutator?

Actually the first time you play heatray in the campaign it doesn't have the DW, and there is a seperate map file named DM-Heatray_SP or similar, try that.

I'm so sick of this argument. Heatray is fine. It's no different than community beloved gimmick maps like DM-Pressure in UT99. It's just a gimmick...one map with a vehicle...it's a nice a change in a pub rotation of FFA or TDM. For TDM, I see it absolutely no different than a power up.

Second, I've popped in that thing in pubs several times, with inexperienced players, you can sit and go dominating without leaving the spawn pad...if there are any players that have ANY experience, the walker lasts maybe 15 seconds or 2/3 kills worth. No different than the couple of extra kills you get from an amp or running around with amp and shield. My guess based on the dozens of times I've played it online are TOPS 2-5% of the total kills on that map are from the Walker and even if it's more...it's ONE MAP. How many crappy DM maps have you played over the years that HeatRay deserves this kind of focus?

GET OVER HEATRAY. Dead topic. Dead Horse. Stop Beating it. What's the purpose of continuing this argument. Tons of DM love in the retail version beyond HeatRay and all people can do is focus on one piece of one map.

Going forward a simple "I don't care for HeatRay" is fine rather than having to launch another one of the long winded dissertations on how this map has somehow tarnished the long standing tradition of UT Deathmatch. Even without the Walker it's hardly the best map in the retail.

i think it's fun to have the darkwalker in there to mix up the game. it can help give a player a couple extra kills and it makes people have to adjust their strategy somewhat to accommodate the new element in the match.

i like vanilla deathmatch too, but it's fun to be able to play a map that has some different aspects like heatray to mix up the deathmatch experience.
