The absolute biggest problem with the vehicles....

KewlAzMe repliedAgree with the manta being way too over powered and way too quiet.. but I think the scorpion discs are retardedly overpowered... 2 discs to bring down a manta.
Manta:
- Make louder
- Decrease speed and maneuverability
- Allow duck or feign to avoid squish
Scorpion
- Decrease Disc ROF
- Decrease Disc Damage

KewlAzMe repliedI agree with the grapple... i've gotten used to having to grapple the back end, but I can be right behind the **** raptor and still be too far out of range to grapple on to it... the grapple distance needs to be increased dramatically...
But another problem with that is on a map like Suspense where both the Goliath and Raptor spawn at the same spot, 3 team members run out.. one gets in goliath, one gets in raptor, I hop on my Hoverboard ready to grapple the raptor but instead I grapple goliath because it is closer. Need some way of choosing.
Let's face it.. Grappling a Goliath is futile.

UnrealGrrl repliedi dont have too much trouble grappling vehicles and i hardly even played vctf much so its not like i practiced it, it seemed fairly balanced (the grappling part) and was even kinda fun

Sharpfish repliedOriginally posted by Xyx View PostGuiding a box shape along the map by pressing WASD isn't all that different from guiding a cylinder shape along the map by pressing WASD. A Manta really isn't all that different from a person on foot. You are in control either way.
It was just my opinion, I appreciate many people love vehicles and I will just stay out of the thread but I hate the feeling of being 'removed' from the map when I enter a vehicle, they are just not as instinctive as on foot, and it's more about the maps, they have to be made overblown/large to enable vehicles which kills the dynamics of the core gameplay which is about quick respawn, fight, kill/die/get to objective, respawn.. in the vehicle maps it's a big setback to be killed because you are set way back in the map (abitrarily) and the whole gameplay consists of you trying ( in various ways) to get back to the 'action' - zero time to spectacle doesn't work with vehicles it seems.
They are still good for a blast now and then but if UT had been only vehicles since day one I would never have gotten into it.

porcup!ne repliedThe vehicles are well balanced after playing the demo for a while. The only minor complaint i have is with the hellbender rear turret. It should have more knockback. Not as much as in utk4, but the raptor's momentum is unaffected by the impact in ut3. I can understand that it fires more rapidly now and bouncing raptors all over the place would make it too powerful, but the knockback on the rear turret was what made the hellbender dangerous, and without it, it's effectiveness against air vehicles feels somewhat weak.

Hedge-o-Matic repliedOriginally posted by martinblank View PostAnybody that thinks the manta is not overpowered is either joking or remaining willfully ignorant.
Oh, and I've never had any problem entering a vehicle, either.

CreepyD repliedI just played my first few vctf's and **** these vehicles are way overpowered compared to 2k4.
No guns push the vehicles around enough to stop them killing you.
I used to pwn any vehicle on foot, now I can't even kill a manta as they turn so fast. Gladly I wont be playing any more vehicle games anyway

mikron repliedThe problem is that the flying vehicle's are too darn powerful and also that darn guided missile tracking system is to dam powerful around corners and everything blah blah blah the regular cannon gun stinks are its locking missile feature feels like it should only be used in close combat to blast your way through! the actual demo is really weak from what I have seen in the videos bots will be back and you can even drag and drop them or actually throw them in the direction of incoming offenders.... way cool!~

Sharpfish repliedActually, the biggest problem with vehicles is they kill the otherwise brilliant gameplay.
yes an unpopular opinion but remove the FIRST PERSON SHOOTING from a FIRST PERSON SHOOTER and you have some strange half baked mix of multiplayer fun. Newbs are too busy with the novelty factor, driving around like ****, pros are too powerful in vehicles which kills all the skill of moving around WASD style while shooting... but it's obviously popular these days, I know i'm in the minority (and glad to be).
Me, I'll take on foot DM and CTF anyday, that's where the game feels at home and where you feel as if you are in control of the environment not the environment in control of you. Hard to make split second decisions when you have to back a tank up first.

R.Flagg repliedOriginally posted by martinblank View PostThe hover board grappling feature is also similarly annoying to use. Say you've got a manta waiting outside the enemy base and you grab the flag and hop on the hover board. You go out and attempt to grapple to the manta, but lo and behold you have a very hard time trying to get the "press fire to grapple" message to appear and usually are killed before it shows up. It's the same situation when trying to grapple to the raptor. But the funny thing is, once you DO get grappled, you get flung about in all different directions, in places and positions where the "press fire to grapple" message would never show up in a million years.
All in all it is a very clumsy and awkward process ...
They should have left it the way it was in Chaos. You can fire the grapple at any time, at any vehicle (or tree, or building, or light post), and it's (shock!) up to you to actually aim and grapple somewhere useful. Now there's a novel idea, let the player play the game!
That's Ok though, leaves room for modding!

eduardvictor repliedOriginally posted by martinblank View Postnot to mention the vehicles are super powerful and produce almost no noise.
.
Well no offense but WTF do u expect???
Too silent? of course, it's 2200something in the game DUH!
I think we will give up noisy vehicles by then...
Maybe they are nuclear core/fusion cell/hydrogen cell/solar/electrical powered vehicles....
