    Samsung Syncmaster 2232BW

    http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/d...LS22PEBSFV/XAA

I'm thinking about buying a new monitor, and i quite like the syncmaster series. Anybody has experience with one? In the Netherlands i can get on for 270 euro's that's like 400$, i know it sounds much but is it worth it?

I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago for £205. It's an awesome monitor and as you probably already know, the specs are very good: 2ms refresh rate, good contrast ratio, etc. The colours and clarity on this monitor are the best ive ever seen on a TFT, HD movies (both 720p and 1080p) look insanely good. The ONLY bad thing about this is the small amount of backlight bleed i get BUT i researched this and all similar priced monitors have this same problem, its hardly noticeable on my monitor tbh - games and movies are perfectly fine. Ive played both UT2004 and UT3 demo on it and they look superb. Oh yeh, and it's probably the sexiest monitor out there atm

DO NOT BUY A TN-PANEL MONITOR

The good response time/Lack of motion blur is the only good thing about them; the colors are terrible, the viewing angles are even worse. I had a samsung 226bw.

If you want to do something besides playing fast videogames with them, buy a s-ips or s-mva/p-mva panel monitor.

Depends on what you want. Good panels aren't avaiable in 22", only 20.1 and below and 24" and up I think.
Read reviews, I own a Belinea 24" p-mva panel, but it cost me around 620€. I would recommend a 20.1" display, it's smaller than 22, but you can get a hell of a lot better viewing angle and colors with it.

The problem with a monitor is, it may seem nice enough in a store, but when it's home and you can test it with different light and applications, it could turn out to be really bad. Like it did with my Samsung.

That monitor is in theory fine, but they have different panels, some of them own some of them suck, Samsung stared doing this some time ago, they can't make enough panels (the glass part of the screen, the business end so to speak, the most important part) so they install panels from other companies into the same housing (frame, foot etc) some of those panels are just as good as the samsung once, some are as good but got default settings that are retarded (super bright, super blue etc) others are just plain bad panels, make sure you know what panel it got before buying, it's not part of the model definition and the only way to find out it usually looking at a sticker in the back.

I got a 226BW and 206BW (predecessors of that screen) and I would recommend both warmly if you knew what panel they use, I won the lottery both times since I called the store ahead of time and they assured me they sent back any screens with poor panels.

                ah, lcd monitor pickings...
It's always hard to decide which one to pick since I use it for both fast paced gaming and software development

If you wan't to do gaming, crt-monitors for the win, high refresh, good colors, extremely cheap for an incredible quality. Just takes a bit of space...

For a lcd for gaming use a fast response one, During the gameplay you won't notice the lack of colors anyhow, and in ut3 where basicly everything is grey, you won't notice it at all. They are also good enough for development and reading stuff. And about the view angles, are you really going to sit in an angle while playing?

If you intend on working with graphics and want it perfect, use a mva panel or similar, just a bit slower response time though

I know CRT rox but i don't have enough space I think i'll take a 20.1" then, these also support 1600x**** right?

If ur ordering online make absolutely sure its what u want and read reviews. Cuz if ur not happy with it u eather bite the bullet or go threw all the trouble of returning it.
Your best bet is to go to a store and check it out in person. Course responce time is important u also want something that fits your needs.
Hey and if u dont like it u can just return it and get somthing else. I found one and that looked great at the store, took it home....it was total **** the colors were kinda dull and the viewing angle suxed. Returned it and found my viewsonic vx2035wm 20.1 DVI and its the best monitor ive had. Great pixel responce almost has a true back screen, great viewing angles, vibrant colors the screen has a crt look to it. Course Samsungs are great also

Yes, 20.1 native resolution is 1680x1080.

For you, of course - but don't you think it's pretty pathetic to defend something just because of buyer's regret? TN panels are complete ****, and the fact that you wasted money on them doesn't change it.

Hope you get some common sense when you own a lcd with good panel.

                      edit:
Oh, and with Samsung, it's especially bad. You get panel lottery with pretty much every monitor - means a lot of monitor panels aren't even manifactured by Samsung, but by worse 3rd party companies.

Not this one, but if you get a widescreen for this game know that you're going to have only 70% of the view that someone with a 5:4 aspect ratio monitor would have. See sig for details.

I just purchased and received a Samsung 226bw and despite all the "S,A&C" panel controversy I am 'exstreamly happy' with it, no problems at all, picture looks bright and excellent right out of the box, I could care less which panel thats even in it. A 2ms refresh rate, and all my games look fantastic on it!

With the current $40 rebate you simply cant beat this monitor, got mine at clubit.com.

As far as I know the LG I ordered, with 2ms response time, 3000:1 contrast and 170 degree viewing angle is a TN screen. And the picture I've seen is gorgeous. So what's the problem with TN?
