Yeah, I have a non-calibrated monitor (high gamma, low contrast) on purpose to make it easier for my eyes when reading with different illumination during the day or night, and I screwed up it for you guys I like colour but I recognize it's too much on the 2nd monitor after I tested resetting it to factory settings or using it's own Lightview presets
The point is that DoF is disabled. Download it and tweak contrast and color (decrease saturation a lot, but then increase the blue channel) with IrfanView to match what you would you like to see on your monitor. You will be able to make them somewhat similar to the top left ones

Look here, I just made this HOWTO: http://utforums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=585439

i guess it's a matter of opinion. the nice thing is, we can tweak it however we want for our own preference.
I personally like the design choices i've seen thus far regarding color.
Well said. That sums it up for me too.

    With DOF, post-processing normal:

Grey is in trend this winter guys and epic knew it for three years!
I also don`t like this blue fog on some maps. The game is looking cold and dark enough why make it even colder by some blue fog.

Some maps are dominantly brown, gray or one color, because that's the map's atmosphere. But a good amount of them have plenty of color. Unless our UT vets are suffering color-blindness and other ill effects from playing other UT games.
gray and red, that's really PLENTY of colors

Loads of levels are way to monotone, boring even ..

A color intensity slider ingame would be the best solution IMHO. Everybody would be happy

I like the way the game looks. It's all grungified. But that lady's neck is really skinny.

Please point them out. Some are green gray, some brown gray, some even blue gray... but I wouldn't call that vibrant.

Just compare the game with the wonderful and breathtaking concept art. That's a true artist's perspective, plenty of color there! Epic apparently decided that the professional artist they paid to decide what the game should look like didn't do a good job, since the maps barely resemble the concept art. The art is crisp, vibrant, fantastic and Unreal, the game is over-bloomed, over-blurred, washed-out and drab, and generally a lot less inspired than the art.

I'd also like to see more colors really, kinda like in UT2k4. Maps were also greyish n stuff there, but they didn't look as dull. The majority of maps is greyish and brownish here - what I'm missing is colorful maps like DM-Antalus. Colorful, not rainbow-colored acid trip.

@gargorias: CRTs have more accurate and vibrant colors compared to TFTs/LCDs. They also have more brightness and contrast. CRTs can actually display 32-Bit of colors, while TFTs can't because their panel limits them, they'll roughly be able to display 10 million colors... so not even 24 bit for them.
In any case your thinking is completely flawed.

I'm not necessarily against muted colors. I play the game for gameplay mostly, althought I still voted for colors. I haven't played the full version yet, although I did check out a few screenshots of a variety of levels. The overall feel of the game is not grey, but it's more towards grey than colorful.

    Buy the game.
    Use the editor.
Make a rainbow colored, acid trip looking level !

That's the most drab map in the game, and it suits the level, there are plenty of levels that are very vibrant in color.

I recently changed my wallpaper from a beautiful drawing of the Arboletum in TLJ: Dreamfall to a shot of Torlan. I turned my computer on today and I was struck by how muted it was in comparison.

The color is mostly on the minimap. Just compare that to the environment. How can anyone deny the game is greyish?

    @gargorias: I have an LCD.
