I am unhappy with the UI

I dont care that much about how the UI looks, after all its the gameplay itself thats important. But the lack of features and options are a big step back.
I rather play UT2004 than UT3 as long as UT3 has this much issues. UT2004 seems better in every single way (and I get like 500 frames/second)
Is this really the same Epic? Or did they hire a bunch of fresh developers to hack together UT3 while concentrating on Gears of War?

I don't mean to say I told you so as I likely didn't actually get flamed by anyone here. But I saw this coming as I thought the beta was horrible and with only a month left to get things fixed I prediected that this game would have major problems. Back then I got flamed, people insisting and dismissing me as a UT2004 fanboy, which I am but I can adjust to different style of gameplay.
The game looks great and I think a lot of people initially were struck by that and didn't look further into gameplay. So I did predict this and here it is. But I don't recognize any of you guys here as the people who were flaming me. No biggie, sorry just for weeks I got flamed and just venting.
So from what I understand from the first couple post is that we don't get to see what our ping is ingame? It looks like we can from the server browser menu. But ingame is that the case? I wouldn;t be suprised with all the gutted features. I would like to point out that this is the first Unreal Tournament game that CLiffy B isn't lead game designer on. Steve Polge is the Lead on UT III.
Have any of you ever been this skeptial about a UT game before? I thought Quake III Arena was a better game then UT99. But I did think UT99 was innovative and played it a lot. Quake III was just my preference at the time. Then we got a drastic change in gameplay style that turned a lot of people off with UT2003 and UT2004 which improved a lot on the weaknesses in UT2003. But even UT2003 won me over. It was limited and had problems but it was solid in the gameplay department although different.
All the nesessary features were there, custom crosshairs, ping!, and camera scroll to change the distance of the camera from the vehicles in UT2004. I thought UT2004 was the best UT so far and started playing that over Quake III Arena. While the UT200X games were drastically different I believe that most people found them decent multiplayer games even though they missed UT99 style play. A lot of my friends who liked UT99 more made the move to UT2004 and learned to live with the change. I can do the same with no dodge jump in UT III. What I can't so is accept the fact that crucial features are being cut for no reason at all.
While changes in UT games can be adapted to from my experience gutting crucial options can not be adapted to. You have to have your basics. All other UT games had basic obvious functions that were needed. And they were all good IMO in their own way.
I dont know what is going on with EPIC. They ignore the UI issue, and we have screamed the issue to death. They obviously don't care and thats sad. We need to ask ourselves why aren't they listening to us? Why are custom crosshairs out? From what I;ve read adn I may be wrong why is there no ping ingame?
I believe that this is all due to 1. A new lead on the game Steve Polge over Cliffy B
2. A focus on console sales over PC.
3. A lot of the features left out would busy or complicate controller use, like toss weapon.
4. Xbox Live never seemed to need ping counter as connection was always good..mostly
5.console gamers msotly don't know what ping is.
These are just some ideas I'm speculating at. I can't speak for everyone or would I try. UT fans that I know can adjust to gameplay changes as well as myself but multiplayer shooters should always have the features that EPIC is leaving out. This is very disapppointing. I would recommend if you can checking the game out on a friends PC before you buy. I have a friend who is into machinima and getting the game for that reason. We need to tell EPIC that we are not pleased with the direction of this game with our money since our voices aren;t being heard. I may get banned possibly for that but its something I feel I need to recommend for the good of EPIC actually. Whatever is going through their heads they need to know that their customers won't put up with ridiculous gutting of features.
I hope my post made sense, the points I touched on. Have so many things going on in my head on this game, just trying to get a coherent statement on what I think in my experience UT fans can adapt to and what most of us find unacceptable. Correct me if I'm worng.
Best Wishes

How can features that you were smart enough to implement 8 years ago be missing from this title ?
The menu looks like its idiot proof, always asking you for confirmation.
It asks you if you are sure you want to start a new match, but when you change the game resolution no problem, no need for a confirmation dialog for that, as if starting a new match by accident is way more severe then changing the game resolution to something that my monitor cant handle.
Even installing the game takes less clicks then actually getting into a match from the main menu.
Some menu items get bigger at small resolutions, if you play at 640x480 (for example) a drop down menu takes up half of the screen, the server menu fonts get bigger and it shows less servers/page, it looks horrible.
Why can't i copy-paste to the console... You could do this in ut99 and in ut2004, what about ut3 ?
ALOT of features are missing, how the hell is this:
[shot]http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/7554/sorryepictp8.jpg[/shot]
better then this ?
[shot]http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/7606/sorryepic1op8.jpg[/shot]
How am i supposed to tweak the video settings individually ? Because *surprise surprise* turning off bloom or depth of field from the ini turns off all post processing effects, and *surprise surprise* with no post processing the nightshade is completely invisible.
Where are my sliders and check boxes for every single video setting ? I understand that you want it to be easy for the casual gamer to select his settings BUT, the more features the better, why didnt you add another "really advanced" screen with those options ?
How is this:

better then this ?

Where's my ping ? where's my player list ? where are all the server settings ? They were there in ut2004, is this the next installment or the previous installment in unreal tournament ?
In every interview i've seen you said you were focusing more on offline play. Well let's see in ut2004 you could:
- pick a name
- change your team members
- customize the enemy bots
In ut3:
- you dont have a name, you are "Player", live with it
- customize your team ? forget about it
- choose enemy bots in instant action ? nope
- at least see what enemyes you will face in the next mission ? nope
Not to mention there are significantly less character models in the game when comparing to ut200x, but thats ok because you cant choose how to look anyhow.
After i first installed the game i went in and played the campaign offline for about 10 missions, i was curious about the online features so i logged on but then changed my mind and logged off to continue my campaign and guess what, the game erased all my progress. While i was thinking about throwing my monitor out the window i went into instant action to check out the necris vehicles, first map i tried "serenity_necris" has axon vehicles instead of necris.
The gameplay is fun, the graphics are amazing. But then menus suck, alot of critical features are missing and the game is full of bugs.
Good day.
As a programmer myself I plan on buidling my own INI GUI
interface.

If you are ignorant enough to think that every game is perfect when it is first released then please feel free to list some examples.
Also, the majority of the community is much too impatient to wait for a patch. And there is a reason they delete your threads, it's because all you do is whine and make it harder for them to do their work. Let them work and it'll take time, the game won't be perfect instantly by the community's constant whine. All we can do for now is support them for all they have done now, I must admit the game isn't as good compared to others but they will fix it.

This isn't about a patch, this is about a redesign of the interface... I have never seen a patch do this much and i dare you to find one that has in the past...
This UI will make competitive gaming very hard though
- comparing pings is impossible and so is pasting an ip in console.
- You can't see your buddies that are on the server yet and you can't even set favorite servers to save your own clans servers?
- Also the friends system.... Is there any way to do the [clan]* thing again? It's impossible to find clanmates in this server browser...
- catching demos with the current demorec system is impossible as well...
- are there even player specific stats?

Even adding more options to the graphic settings dialog isn't a redesign of the UI.
Actually we are talking about small changes, just a few important missing features.

you can still look at your ping by pressing f6 but that's not rly helpful for playing on Clanbase or other Leagues where you have to compare your pings for server desicion... **** that fun players you make games worse (j/k) i have ut3 and when i finaly get into a game its realy fun... but to get in one it's a pain in the ***... most what sux is to find the option which are in the game... sometimes there is a button up left then bottom right wtf? can't belive it is difficult to make an easy and nice to use Menu with many options after doing it two times... Epic should have know that such a menu is **** with Experiance they have gatherd all these years...
and thank you that i can't even change my crosshair...
Yea i'm german my english sucks but hey Epic doesn't care anyway so...

This is unbefreakinglievable. I had stated earlier in other forums that the UI was nothing short of a fallacy. How the heck do they expect us to tweak our settings properly? Or not? Maybe they made it purposely like that so that we COULDN'T tweak it, which would force us to get a sh1tty console with a gamepad. Or maybe they thought that if they made it really harder for us to tweak, that if we got into cross platform competition, some n00b with a g@y little gamepad would be able to beat us mouse/keyboard vets???
Maybe it's all of the above. Or maybe they were just lazy. Or maybe it was something else. I'd like to see what goes down with this. I was going to spend some dough for UT3; now seems I'd best leave that on hold indefinitely. And then sabotage your own customers by actively repressing any constructive input about it? BS.
I bought every single UT game since the beginning. Looks like this will be the one to break the trend. Are you listening Epic?
