We are all unhappy about the UI, there was a loud outcry on the boards when the beta demo hit the net, Epic saw said outcry and with the grace only they can manage ignored each and every thing we said.

      - pick a name (Create an account with desired name)
      - select the character you like (Use settings\player\customize character)
      - change your team members (Use BOTS section under instant action)
      - customize the enemy bots (Use BOTS section under instant action)

      In ut3:
      - you dont have a name, you are "Player", live with it (Enter account name\password and press PLAY OFFLINE)
      - in campaign you can only play reaper, instant action you get a random character (Reaper is story character. Use settings\player\customize character)
      - customize your team ? (Use BOTS section under instant action)
      - choose enemy bots in instant action ? (Use BOTS section under instant action)
      - at least see what enemyes you will face in the next mission ? (They're talking about this in background. Listen)
      Red here its me.

It's not the UI that bothers me, but lack of options in general that were so prevalent in the previous UT's.

@DS3, thank you for setting the record straight. This is good news.

DS3 > in the retail version? I thought hddante was saying it was nerfed... if not and what you say is correct (choosing your character in offline works) then great... another rumour put to rest.

Can you confirm specifically that you can sort out bot teams yourself? In the demo, you simply chose which bots were "active" and they sorted themselves into whichever team they felt like joining.

Nice, i finally found the character customization screen, hidden at the bottom of the screen when all other options are on top.
I apologize, i was wrong, you can choose your character in instant action and customize him a little bit.

The other points however still remain, this is how the bot selection screen looks like:
              [shot]http://img67.imageshack.us/img67/624/sorryepic4ew8.jpg[/shot]
All bots are the same it seems, and you can't choose witch bots are red or blue.

Choosing a nick offline DOES NOT WORK, entering account name\password and pressing PLAY OFFLINE leaves you with the "Player" nickname. Just try something different and you will see it doesn't work.

at least see what enemyes you will face in the next mission ? (They're talking about this in background. Listen)
Listen for what ? "oh we're fighting the necris" ??
I want to see enemy favorite weapons, stars, pictures.

PS to mod: thanks for changing my thread title to something that sounds stupid enough.

I agree here. If we had similar functionality to previous UT titles there wouldn't be too much of a complaint from us. But there were hundreds of options in the menus with the previous two games, and dozens here. Even the original UT had a lot more options that are selectable.

Honestly, I don't see what the big deal is. Maybe it doesn't matter to me because all I play is Instagib. Crank all settings to max, search for Instagib server...that's it.

And the one feature I haven't seen yet is individual Bot customization -- features like Accuracy, Awareness, Strafing, Jumpy Behavior etc. and being able to give them whatever name you wished. Original UT did this best.

Agreed about the UI, it does look good but lacks functionality

The big deal is that the UI is very important in finding games, setting up your games, etc and it's completely useless in this game. Epic has made excellent menus in the past, I see no reason why they suddenly can't.

If this came out last last year, it might have been excusable, but there are so many good games coming out right now, it's hard to pick which ones to get.

A game with a terrible UI is completely worthless. The only reason I continue to come here is that Epic has made such great games and been active on their forums before.

You can probably still make your own bots by editing an .ini in UT3. You just won't be able to guarantee they're on the team you want them on.

Yes, but that is the real big point about this:

We have an excellent game with one of the best graphics engines on the market from years of development and the menues look like they were done in one day by a 10 year old and the only way to change vital options is to dig through the ini-files?

And we are not only missing detail-options here, from UT2k4 to UT3 we lost some vital an basic options here, especially in the weapons and configuration section.

(Not even mentioning the stupid boom-boom-boom, each time you select something. That effect is way overdone for a menu IMHO)

Yeah its kinda sad seeing how crappy the UT3 GUI relative to previous epic's game. Kinda have a feeling this game might turn out worst the quake 4 now......

Hopefully they will fix it with a future patches, like it was in AOE3 (total letdown), where they added more buttons/setting in the UI.

Yes, I found it in UTCustomChar.ini. Notwithstanding, it would be better and easier for all if the options are in the game menu as opposed to hacking an .ini file.
