What's the hold up on the 8800GT?

I was going to purchse a new mobo, processor, memory and video card (two 8600GTS's) last week so I can play UT3 maxed out, but I read the 8800GT was to be released today and decided to hold out for this card. However I can't seem to find any places on the net offering it. I was sure NewEgg would be on point with it, but they like everybody else seem to be dragging their feet.

Was 10/29/2007 just a paper release date?

Just be glad you didn't waste your money on dual GF 8600. Those suck.

Indeed but zipzoomfly inflated their price considerably for what ever limitedly available stock they had.

My guess is that availability will be more reasonable in early November (5 th maybe). I’ll keep looking for an honestly priced 8800GT 512MB card myself ~$250. I bought an XFX 8800GTS 640MB card on the 14 th of Oct from Newegg but it has a 30 day refund or exchange policy so I’m not stuck with it.

This time I think I’ll go for the eVGA 8800GT so that if something faster pops up within 90 days I can step-up using the eVGA step-up program.

Overclockers have a section for the 8800GT as of today but it's empty.

                  Yes!

Its a faster card then the 8800GTS 640MB and 320MB. Its also cheaper and uses less power. Its also a single slot cooled solution so it takes up less space. Check the reviews from Anandtech, guru3d, tomshardware and the like,.. It even had better HD DVD and Blu-ray decode then the 8800GTS series for those who like to do more then just play games,....

OK, I see Zipzoomfly has the eVGA version here:

                  http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...tCode=10007181

They are raking you over the coals though with the inflated $300 price. That’s about a ~$40 to ~$50 markup.
