Can my PC Run it?

Hi, new guy! I just saw the demo for UT3 is out and well.. I have a problem. I want to see if I can run the demo. I'm a huge fan of Ut, and my PC works great with Ut2004. However it is sorely behind in years, and I'm wondering what I should upgrade, what to upgrade it to, and how poorly/well it will run. I'm on a tight budget too.

Memory (RAM): 1407 MB
CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+
CPU Speed: 1991.7 MHz
Sound card: SRS Labs Audio Sandbox
Display Adapters: ATI RADEON Xpress 200 Series | ATI RADEON Xpress 200 Series | NetMeeting driver | RDPDD Chained DD
Screen Resolution: 1280 X 1024 - 32 bit

All I really want is for it to play somewhat smoothly, and to look nice at the same time, with no problems, or fairly a small amount, if any.

hmmm. You have 3 options I can see:

1) The 'cheapie' option:
--==Get the best socket 939 CPU you can, theres still a few retailers around, you should be able to find one.
--==Assuming your mobo can handle PCIe 16x, get a new graphics card, preferably from the 8800 series (the new GT, or maybe a GTS 320 MB). If you can't afford the 8800 series, go for one from the 8600.
this aims to run it comfortably at a low/medium setting

2) The 'middle of the line' option:
--==Upgrade your mobo to something Intel Core 2 Duo capable, with a PCIe 16x slot (pretty standard nowadays)
--==Get a decent Core 2 Duo CPU (the E6550 comes to mind)
--==Get a 8800 series card
This system aims to run it comfortably at a medium setting

3) The 'all out blow-the-balls off your cat' option:
--== Get a good Intel Core 2 Quad capable mobo.
--== Get a Intel Core 2 Quad 6600 CPU
--== Get a 8800GT (out soon!)
--== Get 2 Gig's of DDR 1066 RAM
--== Get a Creative X-Fi Sound card
Chuck it all in a designed-for-overclockers case with wicked cooling and overclock like a beast...
Aims to run it comfortably on not-quite-the-highest setting

I'm going for somewhere between option 2 and 3, and my system is a little more recent than yours.

I can't really tell you prices (unless its in NZ$), but over here option 2 would cost twice what option 1 did, and option 3 would cost thrice what option 1 did.

Depending on the markets in America/Europe/wherever you are, people might recommend differently, which is fine by me, as this is judged by NZ standards.

Runs it on highest settings without a hitch. I don't think the improved textures in the retail will change that...

Well I am also planning for the future

the beta demo, probably, though with 4xAA and 16xAF I doubt it.

The full version will have higher res textures, which could widen the gap between those two systems.
