    Some questions about performance

I currently have the following configuration:

    ASUS Socket 939 Motherboard
    AMD Athlon 64 3500
    2GB DDR Memory.
    ATI X800 XL PCI-Xpress

Will this run UT3 decent? Also, will I get better performance in XP or vista on this?

I don't think that will work. I upgraded my computer recently (not really an upgrade--purchased a whole new machine).

I had the same video card as you. Also, I had a Pentium 3.4 Ghz with Hyperthreading and 2 gigs of ram. So it is a fairly similar. And the performance was unplayable. I'm not talking about "it was 30 fps which is not great"... I'm talking about "20 fps tops and frequent drops to 5 fps".

    My new machine is:

Core 2 Duo, 3.0 Ghz with 1333 Mhz FSB
    2 gigs of ram
    nvidia geforce 8800 gtx
    motherboard with nvidia 680i chipset

The motherboard supports SLI, though I'm not using it at the moment.
This setup gives me 60 fps with drops to no less than 45 during heavy fights near the shock rifle in Shangri La on full gfx settings.

I should also mention that the resolution is 1280x1024.

        i got allmost same rig:

        ASUS Socket 939 Motherboard
        AMD Athlon 64 3700
        2GB DDR Memory DDR1
        Geforce 6800 Ultra PCI-Xpress
I run all games on 1280x1024 (TFT)

In UT3 i get 20-60 fps depending on maps size, situation (players on server, big fight, etc.)
i will not upgrade for UT3.

            2GB DDR Memory.
            ATI X800 XL PCI-Xpress
            My rig is also similar:
            AMD 64 3500+
            1GB DDR 400 RAM,
            Geforce 7600GT.

I get about 30-50 fps with details on lowest, res on 1680x1050, screen percentage on 80%, and with a bit of tweaking in the ini.

            The rig I'm upgrading to:
            q6600,
Asus P53NE-SLI (think thats the model number)
            2GB DDR 800 Ram
            Geforce 8800GTS 640MB (possibly 8800GT now)
            22" Samsung 226BW (already bought)

hope this helps. Try out the beta demo, if you have any issues running it, do a search here, I think most people can at least play it without it crashing now...

...dude - disable smoothframerate in UTEngine.ini (lots of threads on this - it's capping you at 60fps...you should be over 100 average EZ at 1280+) - that's ****-poor performance for your hardware. 60fps is entirely unacceptable.

FFS Epic, sticky the F'in INI thread! I have therories as to why it was done but enough is enough...

Get a dual core socket 939 cpu, try to overclock it as close to 3ghz as possible, and get an 8000 series NVidia card.

                  My system:
                  Opteron Dual Core 165 @2.9ghz
                  2gb
                  8800GTX

I get consistent 60-100fps with an occasional drop to upper 40s low 50s during high battle moments with a complicated background.

                      mine:

                      3200 amd
                      512mb ram
                      x800

i've pretty much turned everything down in game and from the ini. today i set my resolution to 1280x1024 and reduced the rendering percentage to 90% and i believe my fps was constantly above 30. the only slow down i have is when first loading.

tweak it a bit and you'll have it humming right along. also be sure to optimize your system as much as you can.

wasser, you HAVE TO get another 512MB of RAM if you want to play this - 2GB total recommended - it is DIRT CHEAP NOW so this is a no-brainer my friend! ...get it as a christmas gift if you have to but you are gonna need it...if you have an x800xt you can squeek by at low res (XL forget about it)...again, dirt cheap for a better video card check ebay and buy used if necessary...good luck!

                          but...i am playing it

i had 1gb, but one stick went kaput recently so i'm on just the one now. i had planned on a full upgrade in december, but with my fps at its current rate i'll probably hold off for a few more months.

i can't express it enough how thoroughly pleased i am with this 3+ year old system running ut3 as it does.
