Example of why I think having a floating skateboard is lame

Today I connected to a server, and these two guys were whining about how they "just wanted to skate," and that we were "ruining their fun" by actually playing the game. Please.

EDIT: Ok, this original post didn't fully articulate my feelings, I hope by including the following quote with it, more people will understand what I'm saying:

I am NOT trying to debate the functionality of the hoverboard. It's useful.

I am NOT complaining that people are trying to skate instead of play. It may be dumb, but I pop them and cap the flag until they leave.

I AM saying that I think a floating skateboard is ridiculous and looks lame to me. Like they said, "gee, the kids love mega X-treme to the max sports, let's throw a skateboard in so we can be cool!" I think it's silly. I bring up the incident on the server today merely to illustrate the kind of attitude it's attracting.

QFT, many whine when you shoot them while chatting, it's not easy to know if they are actually typing or just aiming at something, UT isn't a chatroom so typers are fair game, it's not a skating rink either so skaters are fair game also.

Indeed; it's a public server so anyone can frag them if they like. If they wanna do other things then they'll have to set up some private server or so.

True. I do hope they get their own gametype so servers with those maps won't clutter the normal ones.

And I'm sure there will also be maps for the Scorpion and the Hellbender and perhaps other vehicles too (that Necris ball vehicle comes to mind..).

I'm pretty sure they'll become great use on those huge warfare maps... all you've experienced with them thus far is on a VCTF map. Are you seriously making up your mind based on a BETA Demo?

Yes, yes, I frag them, very good. I'm just expressing my disapproval of Epic's choice of aesthetics/style, and illustrating that it's having an effect berond the purely visual.

I guess I would suggest some type of rocket belt/jetpack type thing (no, it doesn't have to fly, it could have the exact same function as the board does now).

I'm not debating the gameplay function of the hoverboard. If it's a floating skateboard in the demo, I'm sure it'll be a floating skateboard in the retail.

Well, I haven't made up my mind one way or another... especially since I haven't played the demo... but on the negative end.. I wonder if its just another sign of console type of gaming geared towards whats "cool" with the kids. Really, skateboards? Monsters and fully armored soldiers doing tricks?

I don't like the idea... but it may be O.K. once I get into it..???
