    TCAdmin interface vs UT3 Engine

    I'm an admin at RnRGamers
Speedy Game Servers our UT2004,Counter Strike Source, and Medal Of Honor servers host uses TCAdmin as an interface and so far there is no way to make it work
UT3 is plagued by the same UT3 Engine problem that MOH Airborne has. The game automatically saves everything in the My Documents folder, and there is no switch to specify another path.
Does anyone know if this will be fixed in dedicated server release?

I don't agree with the decison to save everything there in the first place.

IIRC, the decision to do that has a lot to do with Vista's security policies. Limited user accounts cannot access certain Programs folders, depending on the security levels. The only guaranteed place for a user to access saved files is in the My Documents folder.

And so begins the new era of disgust and annoyance. :|

I'd rather have it the old way too... And I bet most would say the same. And yes, it has pros and cons I know that.

This would be a valid point if the majority of servers out there were hosted on Vista. They are NOT... ...same goes for the clients.

In fact, no serious (as in dedicated) server is hosted on Vista. At least, I have never heard of anyone running, or selling, a dedicated server that ran anything other than Win 2003 (NT) or Linux. Coincidentally, those are the two OSes the server did NOT work on at release, LOL.

Yes, I do not get that either. UT is an online game - 'mostly'. Yet, the server part of it is kind of left behind. The admins have to figure out things on their own.

The server browser - probably the most important thing after the game itself is still missing basic functionality. Most of the new players think the game is broken as they can not join 60% of the servers for no apparent reason.

Anyway, long story short, we are also having problems with the TCAdmin. Because of the need for constant restart of the UT server the TCAdmin admin had to give me shell access (ssh) to the machine so I can manage the UT servers.

Please, EPIC do something for the Linux server and the browser. We all love this game! Most of us are managing these servers for free in our free time.

"Help us Epic, you are our only hope..."

There is chatter about this issue in the TCAdmin forums. They are taking a wait and see attitude until the game is actually released. It's the same with EA Games and Medal of Honor Airborne. We waited 2 years for the game. It's only good for single player. When are the dev's going to get it... forget about single player and focus on multi player with a working dedicated server. $50.00 for a single player game is robbery.
The UT3 demo is great and the game looks promising... I just hope the server things gets attention.
Another thing. Vista didn't fool the gaming community. No one is buying it. Windows XP and Game XP are by far the best gaming systems.

I agree on the Online and Server issues. I really hope they get it resolved soon. It is hard to recruit for your team without a server. I get better performance in games with vista and have NOT had any problems. I enjoy it but I guess it is hit and miss for some. I actually get better framerates in vista when testing in dual boot. Very small improvements but still.

Honestly, in many cases you might RDP into a Windows 2003 server at a data center, if you aren't going with a flavor of Linux. Many of us are used to running a UT server that way, or through some webadmin feature of the server itself. Just an FYI to some people who might not have hosted a UT server before.
