Well after all the hype about the ut3 sniper rifle being better.

I dont really like it nearly as much as I did the lg. Why?

It feels like a very uncreative hitscan weapon. Just the sound of the gun itself makes me feel like I'm being thrown back into some WWII shooter, not UNREAL. It surprises me that after so many years of being in development that the best we can get as far as a tracer is a boring dull laser beam, no sprites or cool effects. Quake II rail was sick to watch and that was over a decade ago. Some people say it feels powerful in their hands, I say it feels uninspiring and out of place in my view that Unreal should truly be a unique ultra-futuristic fps game. :\

I dunno, I think the sound really gives me that "kick" feeling a rifle should have. Space age or not lol. If you haven't tried it yet, the Shock Rifle is devastating at the same ranges if you can aim/see that far.

Unreal had a sniper rifle, UT3 takes place in the Unreal universe, how the hell could it be out of place?

I never mentioned anything about function. And I'm not here to whine about it, just giving my simple input on small things that could be better in my OWN opinion not become bait for trolls.

            Calm down a little.

Yea well like I had already mentioned, my view of Unreal weaponry was something more like the lightning gun, and being that I started off in UT2K3, I have never felt a reason to revert back to the sniper, regardless of whether it was in the original 'Unreal' game. When I say out of place, I'm obviously comparing it to everything else in the Unreal universe that feels more fantasy/futuristic.

But your criticism is that a Sniper Rifle doesn't seem very "UNREAL" yet 6 Unreal games obviously sport one. Unreal. UT. Unreal 2. UT2k4. Unreal Championship 2, UT3.

And while I understand your point about a Sniper Rifle not being very futuristic, I disagree with that viewpoint, and it's not the only conventional weapon used in the Unreal franchise. The majority of weapons are. Very few are pure energy weapons like the Lightning Gun.

They are all unconventional. I dont know know any other good fps game that uses the creativity of weapons in the way UT3 does, namely flak, bio, shock and lg. And you're wrong about UT2k4 "sporting" the sniper rifle. Sniper rifle was never used in any map except face classic, and that map was never played on any ladders or scrims and the majority of people agreed the lightning gun was more favorable in that game anyhow.

And the majority of the Unreal's are simply a rehash of the previous. How can you even point out a console port as a whole other Unreal game?

I'm pretty sure at least ONS-Convoy had it too.
Anyway, UT3 is obviously based much more on Unreal and UT than on UT2003, a lightning gun wouldn't fit at all I feel.

                      You obviously didn't play UT1 :P

Is there any *real* difference between the sniper and the lightning gun?

The LG had some random splash I think.

Wow... That's totally a reason to insist on having it back in. Splash.

I mean wow man, thats just hard-core...

There are a few difference between the two in 2k4:
                              1. the already mentioned splash damage
                              2. LG did more damage than the sniper
                              3. LG didn't have that "almost put you to sleep" slow switch time the sniper had.

There might be a thing or two i forgot, i dunno.

If you count more damage as a difference you might as well mention that it takes 28 more seconds to reload.

The spash is the only real diff.
