Wow, thx for all the info guys (I'm assuming .

Think I'll wait it out and just get the rest of my pc together. I've heard the gap in performance between the nvidia 8800gts 640 and the hd2900xt is pretty large for the marginal cost difference. Hope they both dive in price!

Just a quick question. Without starting a World War, which is currently performing better vs. cost. amd or intel? I'll need to get a processor that will play the game at good fps, but hold costs down. Any suggestions on which one?

well - I'm planning on upgrading as well. Graphics wise I'm looking at the 8800GTS (probably 640MB version if it comes down in price).

I've worked out that the Intel q6600 is best bang for buck in my price range.

so yea, intel at the moment. But with new chipsets coming out soon that might not be true for long (but in my experience intel is better)

thx for the feedback, unfortunately I buy on impulse and ordered the AMD x2 6000 about 3 min ago. Oh well, It seems that processors aren't as important as they used to be. It's all about the GPU now days I think.

            thanks again, Dustin

yea the amd6000 will run the game fine anyway, if you were going to go to intel you'd probably need to get mobo/ram as well (so it makes it even more expensive).

The 320 GTS will be fine unless you plan on running at resolutions above 1680x1050 ... then you will need to have more video ram and that is where the 640 would come in. But to be honest just go ahead and get the GTX so you don't find yourself constantly saying "dang it all I should have just bitten the bullet". So what if you struggle for a month ... time passes and then you'll have money again and plus you will have an awesome video card. What I am going to do just to have a working PC is trade in my current card (I have an eVGA card) and just buy a cheap card to at least allow me to go online and for a few days I can deal without playing PC games ... that is what my Wii and 360 are for ... and then when my GTX comes just take the other card back to Circuit City or wherever.

320 for lower resolutions and 640 for higher.

                    I got 8800 GTS 640MB and on max gfx at 1680 * 1050 and i get a consistant 570 - 60 FPS

well, ill direct you here for you answer so you can decide for urself -
                      Benchmarks

Some nice graphs on the performance dip between 640 and 320 version.
As you will see there is little benifit of having the 640 at this point
When we have full res textures expect the 320 to take more of a hurting ( unless you are fine without em)

So... Would the 320 suffice for 1280x1024 + eye candy?

Will the 320 run the game smooth at high settings or is the 640 needed?
                              Any bonus to the memory?

                              thank, dustin
Wait until after the game comes out and there is a benchmark available to compare the cards.

                                hmm,

reading all your posts makes me believe theres something terribly wrong with my maschine.

i can only play fluid on 1280 x 800, whereas my native resolution is 1680 x 1050, and only with world/texture detail at 3 - i am get average 30 to 40 fps, but there are fps drops into the 20-region within gameplay.
