    8800GTS 640mb or 320mb? Which to choose?

Hi, I'm between the 8800gts 640 and the 320 version. Can anyone enlighten me on whether the added 320mb in ram really makes a difference in the gameplay? I'de like to cut costs whre I can.

Will the 320 run the game smooth at high settings or is the 640 needed?
    Any bonus to the memory?

    thank, dustin

I would suggest you wait a month until the new GPUs are available from NVidia and AMD/ATI. Barring that, always heed Tim Sweeney's technical advise.

For high resolutions you need the 640MB version. For medium resolutions and candy you need the 640MB version. The 320 will let you play low and medium resolutions with high frame rates and less candy and maybe even high resolution with lowered candy.

aw man I hope I could get by with a 320MB version at 1680x1050... That will save me a few hundred.

Otherwise my budget will have spiralled even more out of control (its already doubled!)

I can play at the highest settings on my 8800 gts 320 and I get 80fps.

                8800GTS 320meg with 4x AA, 16x aniso, 1680 x 1050
                Core 2 E6600
                2 gigs RAM

All game options maxed, max bots, VCTF, 60fps with occasional dips into the 40's.

Warfare maps in full game might require some settings reduction though.

                  The demo has reduced textures.

Could always go with evga. If something new comes out within 3 months you get full credit towards the new card.

huh? so they let you have full money back if you want to upgrade?

sounds like a money loosing deal for them.

you pay the difference in what the new thing costs. They probably take your old card and sell it as refurb for a nice price, 2 winners in this nice deal.

Ya only thing that stinks is your without a card for a few days as they dont cross ship. In a way they dont make it easy but its still a nice deal. Especially if you buy a card and 2 months later a new card with like 70% gains just happens to tape out. Id wait a few days for a big difference maker.

How long does the deal last? Can you upgrade a card a few years down the line, or is it just for the first 4 months after purchase?
