You alos might see some of those CPUs in the thread in my Sig.

BTW, a new chip will be released in Nov with 6 or 10mb L2 cache, so atleast wait for that (so other prices perhaps will fall). Sorry, I can't find that article.
    Very informative. Thanks.

I'm running a Q6600, but I haven't the guts to overclock it yet due to possible instability issues.

    Q6600 has 8mb of l2 cache...
    knew I'd get something wrong...

I misread the site I was going off that said 2 x 4096KiB...

My Bad, still made the right point though.

It also shows that 4 cores are better than 2 (nice and simple, eh?)

I'd go with the q6600, as it will probably perform better (or at least identically), and if you overclock it will perform better.

it would most likely perform somewhere between the Q6600 and the Q6700... close to the Q6700. you can kinda "guestimate" it from the charts in the Anandtech article.

I personally would wait until jan. 08 and pick up a 45mm q9450 quad core with 12mb of cache for $320.

Yes that is 3 months away, but good things come to those that wait, lol.

This really shows what multi cores in a multi threaded game can do:
