    upgrading grafix card......

ok I'm wanting to update my grafix card so i can actually enjoy playing UT2004 but mainly for UT3. i have an integrated grafix card that sux. when i check my fps on UT2004 it says my average jumps between 3-8 and the actual fps jumps from red to green so fast i cant see the actual numbers. now i know this is a problem so i want to upgrade. I'm using a 64bit processor 1GB ram and a nvidia integrated grafix card. I'm looking to spend around $150-$225 for a new card so any ideas would be great.

integrated ? are you sure you even have PCI-E on your motherboard ?

would recommend a 8800 GTS/320 Mb, think that should work fine ~200€

EDIT: dam, didnt consider €/$, would be a bit more expensive probably

7950 GT 500 MB version should do it The machines at comic-con were on 7800 I beleive.. Also, 7950's are able to run Bioshock and the ww2 looking thing without a problem assuming your CPU, or ram wont bottle-neck it.. Or so I've heard. Anyway, 7950 should let you have some fun

Edit - I would also highly consider looking into getting another stick of Ram.

Go for an 8600 GTS or a 7800. They should be within your price range.

phynix, Can you please post more detailed specs of your PC on here so we can see if it's worth upgrading your video card.

              • is it a desktop or a laptop? (please don't say your gaming on a laptop :\ )
              • does your motherboard have PCI-express or AGP bus for videocards?
              • What CPU model name is it? What is the clock speed? is it dual core or single core? You mentioned 64 bit so I assume you mean AMD 64, is that socket 754,939 or AM2?
              • What type of RAM DDR or DDR2? What is the clock speed? DDR will be socket 754 or 939. DDR2 is socket AM2.
              • What is your operating system? Im assuming it's windows. Windows XP or Windows Vista?

Go with a higher end dx 9 card over a mid range dx10 (8600).

That's $300. And that's the price of the 8800 GTS 320MB, which blows the X1950GT out of the water.

Granted, the price difference is also a lot..

I need a website with PC hardware for decently cheap prices, that ships to the UK/Ireland.

                            7950 GT 256MB FTW
$180.00 plays Bioshock on high at 1680x1050 - should handle UT3 just fine.
