Mark, i was wondering what kind of level of physics effects can people without these cards expect? That level looked really cool, with the tornado hearling crates and the rockets damaging the warehouse roof - but is all that courtesy of the PhysX card? One thing that confuses me is how this would work online. If one player with no physics card blew up a rock arch (like the one seen crushing the paladin in a gameplay video) and the rocks landed on a player WITH a physics card - would each player see different things, one might even see the other guy get crushed before a rock has hit him because he cant keep up with the physics? I don't have a PPU but it would be nice to see some of these effects in game.

Which I personally hate.
Hope UT3 will not be starved for Physics just cause Ageia is trying to use the game as a marketing tool.

interesting. I'm not going to pay a small chunk of money for a physX card. IMO they are rather pointless.

Those are some nice physX effects, im in no doubt that the ageia effects will be great in UT3, the worst thing is i would love to have them in games but until the time comes when these kinds of physics becomes a standard thing, its just ageia marketing, nothing wrong marketing like this, as long as people know that this is only for a small portion of games and a small portion within UT3.

physics implementation is WHOLEY up to the developement team (Epic).
if Epic wants to BOMB your system into oblivion with more physics than you can handle, it's THEIR decision... not Ageia.
Ageia provides an SDK to Epic... Epic uses it however they like. minimal physics? decent amount? more than enough to make your head spin? all of it, whatever that may be, is put in during developement. it would be exactly the same as if they used Havok.
having a PPU relieves some of the strain from the CPU... and allows you to do MORE than just the CPU can handle.
the problem comes in when Epic has to decide... just how much to put... sure, some people say having a quad core is better than having a PPU... even if you believe that... you then have dual cores trying to play the game... and even then, single core systems.... and of course, SLOWER versions of each core.
if you program enough for a PPU to handle... you KNOW that everyone has the SAME PPU... but once you take that out... you don't know how much of a variation in CPU type (pentium dual vs core duo vs core 2 duo, each being ever so slightly different), # of cores, and speed.
making it playable on 3 GHz P4s (single core) is the real starvation you are blaming Ageia for.

yup, ^^that's goobers alright..
Anyway, those vids were sweet. I think the headshots look easier to pull of now or the person playing was just pretty good at them. It was cool to watch and there was impressive physics there. The map was cool too, wouldn't mind if it was a real map.(I know it was made by Ageia)
