    PC vs PS3 Confirmed???? O_o

Epic and IGN announced that there will be Gamespy Arcade implemented in the Unreal 3 engine (Which we already know) that will allow players to play on the same servers with full compatibility.
despite the fact that none of the two companies announced it, there is almost no doubt that this is the meaning, because of the full compatibility between maps in both versions, and the announcment that PS3 will support mouse and keyboard control.

Translated from from ut.vgames.co.il (Dont bother going in if you cant read hebrew )

So can any mod or dev confirm this or de-confirm this? i really dont know what to believe now...

Although it is technically feasible, read this. for those who don't want to read it, here is the important quote: "his headline is a little bit deceptive. It seems to indicate that Unreal 3 will allow the PC version and the other versions of the game to play against each other, but so far that isn't the case.

Although we don't know about the Xbox 360 version yet, Mark Rein actually said he doubts the PC and PS3 version can play against each other, because of the differences in speed (The PC version running up to 60 frames per second at 1200p resolution, while the PS3 version would be running at 30 frames per second at 720p resolution).

It's easy to have games like Shadowrun compete against each other, because they have such strict standards; the game was designed primarily as an Xbox 360 game, and the PC standards were then built around those guidelines.

But Unreal Tournament 3 actually was born for play on the PC. And Epic's Steven Polge has said the Xbox 360 version is the Lead Development Platform that determines how much detail will be in the game. However, the PC version is the one where performance will reach its all-time high with resolutions over 1200p at 60 frames per second when Windows Vista and DirectX 10 is used.

This is an interesting subject I think we should watch."

Call me ignorant, but how is this any worse than someone with a killer rig running UT2k4 at solid 120 FPS with vsync @ 1600 x 1200 with AA/4X against someone with a dog slow computer running 30 FPS @ 800 x 600 at minimum detail?

No one's broached it, but the *REAL* killer app would be Xbox360 vs PS3 UT3 rivalries... In that event, (assuming cross platform compatibility with the PC) we would have the largest UT community to date.

Actually he meant game speed, not frame speed. The PS3 version has be slowed down, as in you run slower, etc.

Just the same thing I was thinking.

Northcutt clearly says: "GameSpy has the technology to actually connect gamers across virtually any platform for multiplayer play, even Xbox 360 to PS3 to PC."

while it also says "Mark Rein actually said he doubts the PC and PS3 version can play against each other"

Anyone else think they paraphrased at some point?

then why would it say "(The PC version running up to 60 frames per second at 1200p resolution, while the PS3 version would be running at 30 frames per second at 720p resolution)"? right after it?

We have not decided if we're going to support cross platform play in UT3 between PC and PS3 yet. We will have it between PC, Mac and Linux however.

I'm going to close this thread now.
