maybe some key to give flag to another player/ vehicle crew when you close to them, so you should not translocate. Or even give to vehicle crew - because there is no translocator.
-if there is no teammates nearby, you just drop flag;
-if there is teammate / friendly vehicle, you give flag/orb to him.

Jezza101 repliedOriginally posted by Judge Dredd Lox View PostSorry I didn't explain further. I don't mind killing myself, it's a matter of your team member seeing you (or hearing "flag dropped") and knowing that you are giving the flag to him. Also, where I play the transporter is disabled.

utzBluesman repliedOriginally posted by R.Flagg View PostFair enough. Can't argue with that. And allowing the player to set various levels of audio transmissions is already allowed. No reason a person couldn't enjoy the best of both worlds.
OT P.S. (sounds like maybe you'd like the spectator cameras we've thought about bringing back from our Q2 version - spectators are shown as actual floating tv camera type of things - it's great when you got a few flying around following you and watching you play. Time to ham it up.)

I do agree about the need of carry your flag back to your base instead of just pass through it. And I don't like the translocator in CTF.

bazzwano repliedOriginally posted by DagnyTaggart View PostThe problem with people being able to pick up their own team's flag is that they'll just hold on to it and run around their own base or go hide it. It would be like playing CTF with moving flags. (The CTF4 and CTFM mods, 4-team CTF, are kind of like that...and what I described is exactly what happens.) I don't think that's good for game play, but I don't see any reason why that can't be a mutator (you have to carry your own flag back to its stand). Perhaps a good mutator would be one that requires teams to carry their own flag back but that also automatically returns it to the stand, regardless of whether someone on the team is carrying it, after, say, 15 seconds.

bazzwano repliedOriginally posted by R.Flagg View PostI agree on both points. And I'm going to **** a bit, in case it's a way for you (and the OP) to get what you want.
ChaosCTF currently has the 'carry the flag' rules, and if UT3 doesn't ship with the option, we'll add it again. IMO, it's always been the best way to play. And when you add vehicles and larger maps, I feel it's the only way to play.
UT2004 had dropflag, but there was no GUI for the keybind - thus many folks were not aware of it (we added the GUI for it in ChaosCTF though, as we felt it was important enough to be there). I also agree that there should be a bit of a 'toss' when dropping the flag, not the straight drop it is now. This was another feature on our CTF wish-list, but for whatever reason that one just never got added in yet. But again, if it's not in UT3 vanilla, it'll be on our list again.
Please keep us in mind if vanilla CTF doesn't have all you're looking for. Or if you just want some variety.

R.Flagg repliedOriginally posted by utzBluesman View PostWhen I'm playing UT, I strongly consider the immersion level in Unreal Universe, wich means that I'm playing the tournament in a television transmission. I believe that the constant and repeating audio messages are part of that immersion and bring more pressure to the players and teams as a whole.
For players like me, without the Unreal Universe, Unreal games wouldn't be so fun.

utzBluesman repliedIt would be fun if you have a throwing mechanism like this:
You have the flag. So You need to throw it to a pal and you press the binded key for that. A 'strenght meter' (like those in some basketball games) lets you adjust aleatory how you throw the flag. If you use too much strenght, the spear will stick into your pal's head/heart and kill him. TK and "red flag dropped" announcer (I dont care about it)! LOL
Or you could send it even at an enemy, like the BR's ball.

DagnyTaggart repliedOriginally posted by bazzwano View PostI must say somtimes i have wanted to pass the flag to one of my bot buddies so that i can take a defensive role, but id rather press a button to throw it.
oh and i don't really want a flag dropped announced that's not necessary the down arrows fine
This isn't relevant but id also like the and option before starting a CTF game where you choice to take you flag back or it appears back in base upon touching itI think it would add the the realism and fun, may make it more intence

intentsly replied..where posts disappear w/o a trace...
Anyway..
I think that there should be a mechanism in place where if two teammates are close enough then they should be able to hand off to the other. Though I disagree that it should be able to be thrown any great distance. Flags have always been clunky, its just what makes ctf that more intense. Heck you might as well make it kickable for a field goal too if throwing is an option.
