          I can see how this can be an interesting idea. This could in someway add some new teamwork. Let's say youre holding the flag and youve been trigger kicked in the air to another site, while at the same time theres a team mate of yours that gets kicked in the air flying towards you, half way thru you 2 meat and you quickly give the flag over to him (if you are very close while in air), like a diversion. Tossing the flag should not be available, only giving it to someone else while he's right next to you shud be ok because you would make the game look like Bombing Run if you tossed the flag wherever u want.

            I agree with you 100%, i think its a great idea. At least you should be able to throw it accuratley... that would be equally cool, because it adds an extra dimension to the game... a slightly more tactical approach, also it gives you some small chance when you are like 14 health and have the flag in an open area with the enemies still on your ***. then you can "heroically" throw the flag accross to a teamate then turn and try and hold them as long as you can, kind of giving yourself up for the team while a teamate tries to get the flag you threw.

            I think things like this give the game an allround cooler feeling, and slightly more dramatic egde, and its a great idea..... just HOPE epic will read this. as it might not be "that" hard to do, even at the end of production.

              I think you should be able to throw the flag like a spear. Or use it like a pole to vault over walls. Or like a huge semaphore flag to send messages. Or, or...

              Seriously, I think a hand-off feature would be great, since the flag-drop feature does a weird, physics-free toss like when you drop a weapon. No good for use in a flag run, when you want everyone to keep moving forward, more or less.

                My main point is that it would be intense.. Just as a mutator.. or an option you pre-set before the game.. It would make it harder because when you stop the enemy flag carrier you then have to get though any enemies between you can you base to return it and they have a chance to get it back with a shorter distance to run.... It would focus the fighting to the flag and think that if you a second to late to pick up the enemy flag your team mate lost and the enemy has started running it back you have a chance to get it from them before they get to base..

                      Just keep it confined to (very) short range. I like the sound of being able to hand the flag to another player quickly & easily, it could also give the 'targetted' player some kind of warning so they know they are about to become the flag carrier.

                          I agree on both points. And I'm going to **** a bit, in case it's a way for you (and the OP) to get what you want.

                          ChaosCTF currently has the 'carry the flag' rules, and if UT3 doesn't ship with the option, we'll add it again. IMO, it's always been the best way to play. And when you add vehicles and larger maps, I feel it's the only way to play.

                          UT2004 had dropflag, but there was no GUI for the keybind - thus many folks were not aware of it (we added the GUI for it in ChaosCTF though, as we felt it was important enough to be there). I also agree that there should be a bit of a 'toss' when dropping the flag, not the straight drop it is now. This was another feature on our CTF wish-list, but for whatever reason that one just never got added in yet. But again, if it's not in UT3 vanilla, it'll be on our list again.

                          Please keep us in mind if vanilla CTF doesn't have all you're looking for. Or if you just want some variety.

                            I think that there should be a mechanism in place where if two teammates are close enough then they should be able to hand off to the other. Though I disagree that it should be able to be thrown any great distance. Flags have always been clunky, its just what makes ctf that more intense. Heck you might as well make it kickable for a field goal too if throwing is an option.

                              I don't mind the messages since I like knowing the status of both flags. As a flag runner, sometimes I'll drop the flag I'm carrying to translocate up to an armor or shieldbelt and also just to fake out the EFC--the enemy flag carrier. You do this by purposely dropping the flag and then hoping that the EFC will rush towards his flag stand, putting himself in danger, increasing the chances that your own team's flag will get returned.

                              The problem with people being able to pick up their own team's flag is that they'll just hold on to it and run around their own base or go hide it. It would be like playing CTF with moving flags. (The CTF4 and CTFM mods, 4-team CTF, are kind of like that...and what I described is exactly what happens.) I don't think that's good for game play, but I don't see any reason why that can't be a mutator (you have to carry your own flag back to its stand). Perhaps a good mutator would be one that requires teams to carry their own flag back but that also automatically returns it to the stand, regardless of whether someone on the team is carrying it, after, say, 15 seconds.

                                It would be fun if you have a throwing mechanism like this:

                                You have the flag. So You need to throw it to a pal and you press the binded key for that. A 'strenght meter' (like those in some basketball games) lets you adjust aleatory how you throw the flag. If you use too much strenght, the spear will stick into your pal's head/heart and kill him. TK and "red flag dropped" announcer (I dont care about it)! LOL

                                Or you could send it even at an enemy, like the BR's ball.
