Models in 2K4 were in the low thousands. UT2007 are around the same.
They just have double/triple the textures.
That's about it.
To those who don't understand the basics of normalmapping. You take the multi-million triangle geometry and condense it into a RGB color map. Makes it easy easier to compute than lighting a whole gaggle of edges and vertices.

DX-GAME repliedWell that isnt exactly true is it? Ala CS2, BFseries, WoW- The top games on the list.
The player profile idea is a good one. Then you wouldnt really need them on the server at all as long as someone was willing to host the files.

Kronos repliedOriginally posted by DX-GAME View PostThat would be a very sad thing. Both for the game, and for Epics sales.
I mean they can cut a million polys for all I care. Whos going to be looking at facial features while they are blasting away at you? I hope they dont reduce the mod/mappers ability to contribute for a bunch of usless graphics.
Gameplay cant make a game succeed on its own, it needs graphics or it would be less of a "video game" and would overall hurt more sails then what you were referring to.

rhiridflaidd repliedIf a player profile feature is implemented, where players can view the profiles of their opponents, that would be a place for this push feature. A thumbnail the player's chosen skin could be used in the profile, and a button to upload that skin on the profile. The only issue would be that skins would need to be whitelisted, in case of uploading anything suspect, and it could have massive bandwidth implications.
All that said, that sort of feature would really help develop the UT community, and bring the online fora comunity into the game itself, which has to be the next target for games to develop and engage with a game's userbase.
UT4 perhaps.

DX-GAME repliedLol, I just got the song in me head trying to find out how to create a UT2k4 push earlier today. Even worse, I stopped messing around with it for a bit to play the song on me Paul..
Anyway, there has to be custom content, from maps to physics alterations to mutators, or it wouldnt be the same.

nfleming repliedI would 'assume' content will still work as always. People could make lower poly skins if they want to I would expect. Remember people, this is EPIC, they are always talking about how much they love the mod community and how much it has helped their games longevity.
Cinderella fan?

DX-GAME started a topic I need a lil Push Push..I need a lil Push Push..
Dated myself there if anyone gets it..
Skins and Models..
I realize there are alot of players that dont want to d/l this stuff.
However, there are just as many who would like to be able to use custom bots, models and have them seen without haveing to jump through a bunch of hoops to get them to work.
UT2003/4 were and are unacceptible. Not only is it a pain for designers, but it adds an extra download once you get it working.
Many thanks to those that developed skins and models for the 2k3/4 series of games. Enjoyed them alot!Tags: None
