Of course, there is "guts" (G(nome) Unreal ToolS) for the linux users which allow to clean up the cache, install the cached maps, compress some textures and few more possibilities.
How about integrating a tool in the game (or an binary delivered with the game) to help cleaning up the cache for example ?
Playing online makes you download new maps very often, at least for switching from beta1 to beta2 of a map, and you get many files, named by a curious number of 20 digits.
You have to check an index file to link the map file name to a more comprehensive name, in order to be able to delete this file and then clean-up the entry of the erased file located in the index file.
Guts do that very well.
I wish UT3 could do it alone !
