Maybe a "Link activated" announcement. Not a announcer voice, but some sort of sedate internal system alert, like the suit in HL1. This might clue people into the fact that the link is an actual part of the plan, and make them wonder what it does.

Hal's description would seem to indicate that you can't link to team mates with the link gun anymore.

I don't think that is the case. Otherwise, if you were in a raptor you could never kill the node since you couldn't hit the bottom plates. I think the individual pieces fall only to give a visual demonstration of damage besides having an energy bar above the node.

Using up their ammo for 2. Are you kidding? It's a very fun tactic to use in TDM and properly utilized can help a team break out from under maplock and start making a comeback. 2 players + link = ouchies provided your front guy is a good shot with it. I've acted as a link booster in 2v2s and it's always fun to watch the opposing players freak as you come at them with this huge golden beam hehe.

I mean to say in UT2 link makes sense because all a person has to do is aim toward the middle and that was that. But in UT3 looks like aiming just at the center mass may not be a very effective strategy, so if you do link to someone in UT3 to bring down a node you better be linked to someone who is able to jump and dodge mantas and enemy fire and still manage to hit all the rotating plates.

I sure like everything about the revised Link Gun. In UT2 the gun itself looked like a box and whevener I saw those projectiles I couldn't help but to think of Will Smith's line in Independence Day...: "Oh my God, you're not going to shoot me with that green ****, are you?"

It wouldn't use ammo if you just linked to the person and held it there, but as soon as they started using their link gun, it would suck power from everyone connected. That's a fine way to do it IMHO. One person at the entrance to the flag room and two people linked to them could take a person almost to nothing as soon as they ran in.

I just want to point out that a greenish tint seems visible from it's gunfire.

I also believe there were some other tricks with it. Like using adrenaline move (regenerate) with say someone that has more health (Jaggernaut) then your character class (say Gen Mo'Kai), it would put you above that characters normal health level.

    From Hal's Hands On.
LinkGun - The recipient of a major visual overhaul, now an odd whitish color, this weapon returns, in functionality, to its Unreal Tournament state. That is to say, it still retains its healing abilities towards vehicles, but the primary fire is smaller and faster and the secondary is pretty much an arrow-straight beam of finite length.
