Vehicles in deathmatch now too? This is getting out of hand.

Me, and the vast majority of competitive unreal players are not seriously interested in the newest and fanciest vehicles, and are certainly not interested in them invading the bread-and-butter gametypes that UT was built on.

There is nothing wrong with having vehicular game modes, and i know alot of people enjoy that style of play. Heck, I dont mind it myself every now and then, a little chaotic vehicular mayhem can really be fun sometimes! But when vehicles begin appearing in EVERY game mode, it is an extremely fast way to alienate the dedicated hardcore community that enjoys the more skill-based aspect of the game, the hand-held weapons and the intricate player movement. We aren't interested in having vehicles completely undermine that competitive mindset of the CTF and DM gametypes that many of us have enjoyed since the days of unreal 1. Why is it such a big deal to keep the game types SEPERATE? I thought you guys said you wanted UT3 to "own the competitive fps genre" or something along those lines? Well, there wont be a competitive game left if vehicles kept getting tossed into every game type like ranch dressing on a salad.

This is the quote I am referring to where it suggests, much to the dismay of myself and many others, that not only is there going to be vehicles in CTF, but now DM as well...

Quote from an interview with Jeff Morris:
I really love DM Whisper, which is a map that takes place on the Necris homeworld, and the Necris environment has a very Turkish-meets-Gothic-cathedral look, and it’s just an incredibly gorgeous map. One of the screenshots in the press kit is an aerial dogfight that takes place on Whisper, so you can see that.
I'm really hoping it was just a typo where he put DM in the map name, but after the news of vCTF I honestly wouldnt be surprised to see this kind of abomination appear either. Say it aint so! If this is true, you are needlessly alienating your most dedicated player base by carelessly implementing vehicles in traditional gametypes where they have no business being.

Where did you find a word about Vehicles in the Quote of Jeff Morris??

I could be wrong, but it appears to me that DM-Whisper is altogether different from the Whisper environment to which he refers. Remember that Epic stated they want to create levels that are coherent - meaning that on one level, you may see a building in the distance, and on the next, you play in it.

They are trying to make it less random, if you follow me.

Nowhere in that quote does he say explicitly that the Fury fighters that are seen ON Whisper are IN DM-Whisper. To be fair, it's a confusing quote and one that I hope Jeff will find time to clarify for everyone.

Same thing as in CTF: Nobody forces you to play the maps that contain vehicles.

Aye, I would like clarification as well. The way it is worded implies that there are vehicular battles going on in this DM map, which is very uncool!

It isn't as if the competitive community isn't choosy about which maps they play anyway. Besides the fact that Whisper is an environment with multiple maps (as Hal points out), league players always release "pro" versions of stock maps with everything just the way that crowd like it. Why would UT3 maps be any different? So if vehicles are on a map you otherwise love, remove them and release a "pure" version.

I agree and I actually love the vehicular gametypes. For once I am actually going to lay off the whole warfare thing.

The problem is far deeper than a mere selection of x or y map. You cannot simply have servers flip-flopping between vehicular or non-vehicular maps, it is a nightmare for the development of the community and especially for the development of competitive aspects of that gametype. I suppose a casual player would not realize the significance in something like this, but as an exaggerated example, could you imagine if every single map had different vehicles, different game mechanics, different this, different that... there'd be no standard to build a community off of, and no base game to focus competitive play on. There needs to be consistancy in a gametype. That is why vehicles should be limited to their own game types imo, instead of invading and changing the gametypes that have been established.

Well put, unfortunately your argument is falling on deaf ears. I keep saying the last thing I want to do is spend 30 minutes hopping servers trying to figure out which is which. More than likley I will find 2 or 3 of each, bookmark them then pretty much never go elsewhere.

Whisper is the name of the planet... at least that was my impression. There is a DM map set there and an WAR (or whatever) map set there too.

I'm sure, even if vehicles are included in DM maps, that there will be more than a couple server admins who feel the same as you, and will take the vDM maps out of rotation. Not the optimal situation, of course, but it's better than the alternative.

I agree Side... The comments made so far on blending vehicles into DM and CTF have been worrisome.
It almost seems like they are being intentionally ambiguous with their statements, and may not be 100% sure themselves on which direction they plan on going with this.

I would like to hear some sort of official statement that vehicle gametypes can be clearly separated and filtered from servers.

100% Agree. Epic said, if you play in one Map, you can somtimes see another map in the background. So there will be more Maps on this Planet. I don't believe, that vDM are in. The most Vehicles are 1+seaters.
