    Ping in server Browser

I was wondering if Ping in UT3's server browser will be shown by a number still like in 2k4 and most PC games.

Im under the impression that Part of microsofts process in bringing a game over to Xbox for XBL has certain conditions. One of which is to use a sort of graphical feature (such as a color code or number of stars via UC) to display how good your connection is to the host, instead of the more traditional "Ping" number.

My point is that Iv seen other multiplatform games on PC that kept this feature of using a graphical display for determining your connection instead of an actual ping number, and I certainly hope UT3 does NOT follow suit.

"Graphical" ping is for newbies who don't understand what a PING is...

I'm sure they'll keep it numerical...

Exactly my point. Microsoft likes to baby their players or so called "casual" gamers by changing things like that. I can recall someone from epic saying something along the lines of they had to change a word "server" to "host" in UC2 or else microsoft wouldn't certify the game for XBL.

Almost as if console gamers will be intimidated by the use of the word "server" from us 1337 nerdy PC gamers.

Yeah I think your right rygar, I mean its part of being on the internet to start with. You gotta know aleast some of the terminology and it can help you gain general knowledge of things rather then specific knowledge which only relates to a certain game or platform. In my opinion people should be made to get smarter with the technology advancements not dumber because of them

I always prefer to see the ping, over the "bars"... but i can understand many casual gamers being confused... so i think a clever solution would color coded ping...

                    Here, I'll elaborate:

0-19 It just doesn't get any better than this.
                    20-39 l33t
                    40-59 Can't complain much.
60-79 My ISP is a bit ghey
80-99 OK, it's starting to get embarassing
100-119 WTF? Is somebody using P2P on our home network??
                    120-139 Well, this certainly sucks.
140-159 I have a good mind to write some irate e-mails to my ISP!

                        lmao!

I usually get pings of around , getting 8000/384 soon instead of 512/256 that should be sweet.

Now how the hell would you say your netspeed in icons mwhahahahaha

I wouldn't be too hopeful about an upgrade fixing your ping Mons. Ping is not directly related to that. It is more about the routing your ISP uses, the type and quality of the lines, wiring in your home even.. Improving your bandwidth would only be helpful in a situation where you were hosting a game, not playing as a client on another server. Put it this way.. I am on a 100 mbps optical connection, and I still ping between and on servers in Germany and Netherlands.. (I'm in Sweden).. so the distance is the main factor here, and it really isn't that much.. I often pinged lower actually when I was on Telia DSL, because they use different backbones..

PS, I actually know someone (in my clan) who pings 8 to some of our servers.. and no it isn't giving a false reading :/

Well wiring is not something Im concerned about especially here in aus, I also realise upload can be just as important as download because you have to send alot to the server as well.

It'll definatly give me better pings here in aus I reckon
