    Impact hammer secundairy fire

so for obvious reasons epic took out the the shield gun. its way to defensive for a game like UT. still it was a good idea and that it could zero out the falling dammage for the player was a nice extra.

the impact hammer in classic UT was able to bounce rockets away. with this in mind I thought it could be cool too have some kind of anti-momentum field for the 2nd fire.

it would work like the following, when you hold up the field everything that commes in this field will lose all its speed. so whenever an enemy shoots a rocket at you, you can actually catch it with this field (think of a field as big as the current shield). at this moment you might be thinking thats just like the regular shield. but theres more this field can only hold 1 projectile at a time and if the projectile in the field gets shot it will explode and hurt the player (also hitscan will not get caught). the field will hold the item for as long as you want and by tapping the primairy fire it will either cancel out (think link ammo) or fire the ammo the field is holding ( think rockets flak shards). also this field could be used to nullify falling dammage when amming it straight at the floor.

so what do you guys think? I think its a nice offensive defensive attack with obvious weaknesses as it can only hold one ammo at a time and the ammo can explode in the users face. still it gives the guy with no ammo a nice fighting change and i think its fun too use.

good, bad, meeh or just dont care? post your thoughts.

I think something more mechanical would fit better; why go back to the Impact Hammer if you're going to use a field of some sort?

because the pri fire will still have that unbelivable strong sound, the shaking and the gibs flying around everywere :P. btw everything in ut3 atm looks really high tech i dont think it will look outoff place.

So basicaly you want the Hammer to have a Grabber alt fire, like Doom3 RoE's version of the gravity gun...
        No thanks.

I've always wanted to see a sonic wave gun. Someday in a mod or something.

Primary fire works very much like the impact hammer. I would take extra care to code it like the UT2k3 impact hammer, because in UT2k3 hammer vs hammer actually had some skill to it due to a few small qwerks.

The secondary fire will shoot a sonic wave out that can travel for a short distance. This burst will actually move things. If your enemy got close enough you could push him off the edge. It would also be useful for rocket jumps. As an added bonus you could have a teammate jump over you and shoot it at them to help get them to higher places.

yeah, I reckon instead of a secondary grab field, how about the secondary fire shoots out a straight line pulse that knocks people back a few metres. I mean, it'd be defensive, but still easily dodged, and it could also make for hilarity when cliffs are involved.

Ok so the stinger and Impact hammer a supposed to be "modified mining tools"....

So waht about the IH shooting samll Bolt prejectile as well, thats really hard to aim, but fairly damagin..

Yeah, but I'm envisioning something a lot more 'pushy' but with very little damage.

                      1. it gives a freshly spawned player the ability too use the stacked players ammo against him. (less spawn raping)
                      2. its offensive so more in your face (dont compare it too the shield dammit ;p)
                      3. you actually have to catch the ammo (with the small field you are risking your life)

my intention for this idea was not too make it like a shield, but more an option to give the hammer somekind of long range attack, without being able to shoot long range all the time. (This would make the primairy fire useless imo). the ability to catch ammo would just be as risky as the primairy fire is and i think it souts the gun perfectly.

No offense, but this is a terrible idea.

Such constructive and well-formulated criticism. Go you!

Did it perhaps occur to you that explaining why you think it's such a terrible idea might help?

no offense, but what do you mean? ;p i guess im quite biased because its my own idea, but i havent heared a single reason why this should be bad to implent.

things like a pushing force for the gun would be opposite for the primairy fire and kinda useless. if you think like that you could better be using a ghostbuster gun lmao, making your opponent easier to hit with the primairy

Zero out the fall damage with alt. fire? That sounds like a good idea, actually.

But no shield vs weapons etc, plz.
