I'm in it for the EDitor. These last few month I've been spending my time modeling and learning how to do animation in max. I'm hoping to try and do a mini MOD/TC, nothing great just something with a few characters/puzzles..
I'm in it mostly for the Bots. I LOVE the bots EPIC make. They are with out a doubt, the best bots to play with in any game. I actually prefer to play with bots over actual players. I wish i could do this with GOW. And I'm also in it for the 360. I'm glad they are porting it(?) to the 360, because there is no way in hell i am spending an arm and a leg, to upgrade my PC. That's retarded. Why the hell would i buy $1000 worth of new parts, just to play one new game, that is about $60? That's why, Consoles > PC
With a PC you have to invest time and cash, with a console All you have to do is invest time. As much time as you want You never have to upgrade, all games look great, and the best thing... Its all for under $500.
I rather invest my time and cash on games, rather then buying parts to play them.
I must be of the minority that is building a new PC primarily for UT3 and maps...
And, editor for the PS3? Didn't they have an Unreal engine game for Xbox1 that had an editor, but there wasn't much functionality? Like terrain formation, and placement of pre-made meshes. that was it (not to mention having to use a controller for that, ugh)
I'd be willing to bet that Epic would release maps for PS3, probably a per week update or something, maybe take a few user-made maps and port them over.
Anyways, there isn't a lot of good reasons to put an editor on a device that really can't share its mods (most levels of UT2k4 weigh in at around 50mb so I can imagine that most levels in UT3 will weigh in more simply because of the new package format used in UT3), can't create original content (3d studio max hasn't been ported to PS3 yet), and since people can cheat so easily with consoles with repeaters, imagine how big a cheater they would be if they could torque up the damage on all the weapons/fav weapons for any mod level those cheatin' console players make.
Just kidding about the cheatin' consolers. I know most folks don't cheat but it is the ones who do who ruin it for the rest of the one's who don't. There probably are more "botters" out there on the PC than there will ever be folks using modded controllers on consoles. Cheating probably isn't the reason the console folks won't get the toys - it is the lack of tools and full system access a user would need to mod.
Perhaps the tools will be ported to linux so eventually the PS3 folks to mod on their PS3??
Yeah, but I have a 250gig usb and a 180gig internal in my PS3! I am VNC connected from my PC with hardwire Gigabit connection. I don't think I'm lacking on space. Playing UT and Modding since '99! Still have 40gigs of UT2k4 game, mods and maps.
I have Yellow Dog Linux installed on PS3. I will get the version with RapidMind Development Platform when it comes out. If you haven't heard of RapidMind, AMD is using this to absolutely floor the OpenGL API by 32 times. Their new Streaming GPU will be totally bad *** with incredible numbers bottom of link page compared to Intel. Forget DX10 and OpenGL, "CTM" will rule the future on multicore. http://ati.amd.com/products/streamprocessor/index.html
But ATI/AMD GPU still won't beat the 205Gflops of the Cell BE in the PS3! Need to compile code? Nothing faster! If need be, you can Cross compile from Windows or Linux with the VPN gigabit connection interface to PS3! Shame to have buy two versions what PC players get in one for same game. I'm sure they will release Linux version.
Check out RapidMind as well! The new API is called CTM (close to metal) and uses a language called Sh to interact through standard C++ programing language to use every last once of every last core on Cell BE or any Multicore proc and you don't have to know **** about the proc!
Hey if Epic just gave me the Editor with my overpriced PS3 game, I could install it on my puter and run it Cross Platform through my VPN to my PS3! I'm sure Epic will have "dedicated server setups" for download. I have a dual proc Dell server with 3gig ram for that, and high speed internet!
Hardware wise I'm set! And much better gaming, from my "ButtKicker" Game chair in Living Room. Forget rumble or force feedback! I can put one of these transducers on a small chair and move it accross the hardwood floor! With my Sony 1080P 55" Bravia, makes my Sony 24" puter monitor look tiny! Tried trackballs, prefer my Razer Laser 2000 DPI mouse on a lappad. Thanks for the advice though.

Better take those dark glasses off, before you crash into something. I use a Razer Copperhead Mouse set to 2000 DPI! What do you use? A 200DPI mouse! Mouse speed is adjustable and if you actually did use an XFPS setup or even went to YouTube and watched a video, you'd see NO LAG. Plus you'd see a mouse movement radius of about 3 inches!
So take the blinders off first! Then tell me what you know. Plus I'm not really promoting that device, but it is going to become wide spread and new ones will get better. These things equal the new generation of Game Shark! What about instead of just enabling auto fire (like they do) they enable auto aim as well.
I have a Nostromo N52 keypad with that Razer mouse. What if they update the XFPS to use that, too? That would put me above the average PC player by far on an X360!
I would just like to see straight keyboard and mouse support enabled for both consoles. Not that difficult if they are already supported for PC!
Why is that so hard to understand?
And RoadKill? Assets are the same on both platforms, it's onle the API's and executables that change. Ever heard of cross platform development? And the fact that Open Source Products can be easily used to produce graphics. In fact as an API, OpenGL out performs DX on all the Epic games I've played! Now with Khronos Group pumping out versions 2.5 and 3.0 this year it will be even better. Even Nvidia, AMD and Intel are contributors now. But it's still the going to be a snail compared to what RapidMind Development Platform will produce for game creation. With a whole new API called CTM! Close to Metal tested by AMD performs 32 times better than OpenGL, making multicores put out every ounce of power they possess. New language as well called Sh!
You might want to read about Streaming processors like the Cell and RapidMind Development Platform. Check out AMD's own new streaming GPU to find out what the future holds for us. Check on the PS3 as well. Yellow Dog Linux will have these tools fully installed on PS3! For game development they will have no equal on multicore parallel processors.
What are you doing? advertising that lame excuse of a mouse emulator? It fails to emulate a mouse good, the friction and maximum turn speed make it unable to emulate my desirable sensitivity. It aims better then the controller but requires far too much movement of the mouse.
Whats this have to do with the editor anyway, personally I still feel its not feasible for a console platform to be an editor platform as it lacks additional development software. On a side note, community custom maps and mods are typically not as optamised and require more powerful systems to run effectively which may make it difficult to crossplatform.
Re: RoadKillGrill? Flat out liar! I have really used one, and when tuned right, you kill controllers! That simple! You don't get the point either. Just use real keyboard and mouse support for UT3 on all platforms. What's so bad about that, unless you work for Microsoft and just want control!
If X360 owners want to pwn everybody, the XFPS makes it simple. This is a dude piling up dead bodies in Gears of War!
You won't even know you're a victim! Force Microsoft to enable KB/Mouse support NOW! End the useless slaughter that awaits console players in UT3! You may even be helping your own survival on PC. This thing will enable all kinds of cheats in the future!
The editor requires more then the app itself to be truly worth anything. By itself it no ability to make static mashes/models or new textures/bumpmaps and is defiantly not a good working environment for scripting/ codeing. You need 3rd party apps to do a lot and attempting to add them in the editor would be foolish.
Also XFPS is a poor excuse of a controller its not a good emulation of a mouse and kb. I tried it and found it painful to use as it was unable to move correctly as a mouse would in a real game.
Epic now has us entering the ring with different unnessary handicaps, that just don't have to be!
No Editing tools for consoles, no keyboard and mouse support to play in game, is simply criminal and bleeds extortion, to sell more copies and more hardware that many console players can't afford.
We already have devices in the market place that will enable console players to cheat without being detected with keyboard and mouse play (Autofire even). They are external devices that interpret the signals from a keyboard and mouse sending the signals as if it were from a controller.
If you play on a PC, you will be wondering how you just got killed by that console player. Other console players will be wondering how another console player gets top kills in a server. A whole new form of cheating will be born in cross platform play where we will be forced to to buy these units to even compete.
Plus it is Wicked Sick of Epic to force us to buy, not only the HIGHER priced console version, but the one without the Editing tools for a double RIPOFF! Especially if you are a modder and forced to buy the PC version as well!!!
Sony has already enabled keyboard and mouse support for not only editing mods, but in game play as well. WHY NOT USE IT Epic?????
Is this to satisfy M$ sadistic control freak desease! That as we see is worthless? The only people you are denying kb/mouse play to, are the people who can't afford the XFPS's and other sure to be developed ones for the PS3 as well!
Nobody I know prefers to play with a controller. Why force us? Now they will be putting us all together, and creating totally unneccessary complications for not only gamers, but themselves as well! What's the POINT?
At this time, I am not so sure I want to buy any version of UT3.
They all need to rethink the editor, KB/Mouse support for both PS3 and X360. Microsoft needs to get off the anti-KB/Mouse thing and realise it's been broken and enable these features. Otherwise we will have Anarchy in the cross platform servers!
I urge all X360 console players to buy one for this game if you still intend on even buying the game, to prepare for future warfare in UT3! Show them who really has the power to dictate how we play the games we pay for!
No doubt a version will come out for the PS3 as well! Let's take back our gaming experience! We pay far too much as it is for the dumbed down version we will be getting without KB/Mouse and Editing features!
Woot. Roboblitz' editor is something to check out while you are waiting - a good many functions seem to have been moved to the menus (sans on the tab to the left). Roboblitz also offers the option to do additive (empty space) map building or subtractive (digging caves) map building.
The object pallette seems greatly revamped - now you have textures and materials. It took a while to get the filters (sorts out textures, objects, etc) set up right to show usable textures vice materials.
Also it seems that everything is a package now. All textures and objects are lumped into one file. I can see the benefits of it, but it is hard to just find textures, etc. The filters help, but I am too lazy lol.
