    XMP Gametype?

    Hey guys.

I remember reading not long ago that the game would be getting what sounded like some of the assets from U2 XMP (Unreal 2 Xpanded multiplayer). Specifically the energy fences, deployable turrets, classes (I think) etc.

I guess my question is does anyone think they may be including XMP as one of the gametypes? For my money XMP was one of the coolest MP ideas I had seen in a long time....like a cross between tribes and UT2004 and it would be awesome if they didn't let that gametype got to waste.

I wish I could remeber the interview I saw it in because I haven't heard anything about it since.

i think this is not good idea because we don't know warfare is a good or bad
    gametype

I don't think Epic will make the XMP gametype. But I do hope it gets made for UT2007. Preferably by someone more ambitious than FMI

take in mind that warfare is said to have deployables and so may be more XMP based than yah think :]

To me, Unreal Warfare sounds like it will play like XMP only better, which seems promising .

I remember I read somwhere that when creating Warfare Epic kept XMP in mind.

It seems to me that every sentence needed to explain a gametype after "shoot people for points" cuts the number of players in half. As much as I love the greater tactical flexability of XMP, people just can't handle it. Onslaught is really pushing the envelope for most people, and Warfare will be on dangerous ground as far as acceptance goes. Most FPS players don't enjoy complexity, it seems, so these great gametypes (like XMP) languish on empty servers.

If that's true Warfare may be pretty fun

I think to remember that quote: It is about the deployables, IIRC.

XMP was quite popular in the first time (before the server got problem, that had something to do with Legend I think... something like that)

Everything was explained to you and well, getting into the game was easy and you rapidly discovered everything that is considered complex.

And its not even complex anyway, you can go around and beat your ennemy constantly even if you don't understand why and your helpfull (in XMP, at least). It depends on how complex things are, really..

Until said person decides to be an **** and spam deployables all over the place draining the power

BU's UT2007 page might say one way or the other

XMP was hugely popular with my own team [12M] - until some idiots fround bugs/cheats and everyone stopped playing.

the guys enjoyed the expanded game style over CTF and if Warfare is like it then they might rise to it.

The problem wasn't so much the complexity is the way it was marketed.....which is to say it wasn't. Legend added it after the fact simply because there was a vocal community who wanted it and Legend being the awesome studio they were did it out of their own pockets. What Atari SHOULD'VE done was release it as a free stand alone much like Activision did with Enemy territory. That is now going to pay off for Activision because Quake wars: Enemy Territory is one of the most anticipated MP games coming next year (Besides 2k7 of course ). If Atari hasn't been so narrow minded they could've been looking at a larger competitive community that they could've built on.

In any case the problem was that not many people owned U2 to begin with and most weren't going to reinstall a whole game to check it out. The other version for UT2k4 was/is excellent but unfortunately it came out well past the time where anyone still cared about UT2k4 mods and the only ones left were the sniper arena kiddies.

Even if it isn't the pure XMP experience there were a lot of great ideas in that mod that I hope don't go to waste.

Hey guys, just resurrecting this old ho' of a thread to see if more info has been released that might clarify this subject.

I'm looking forward to the game (UT3) more than ever but I still hold out hope that Epic won't let the XMP gametype fade into obscurity.
