    Bash attack

Have you tried Left 4 Dead? It features a movement which is very intuitive and effective in close combat, specially if you assign it to a secondary button in your mouse. It consists in bashing your oponents with your weapon. This pushes them backwards and they fall to the ground. Do you think this could be implemented in UTIII with a mutator? After playing many hours with Left 4 Dead and then switching to UTIII, it sometimes happened to me that I instictively used that mouse button trying to push an oponent away from me when we get very close.

    It's called a melee attack.
It's doable, and The Haunted have done it in their mod, but having it in UT3 would destroy the weapon balance.
This topic seems to come up every month.

Because pushing people back is so much more useful than just unloading your gun on them?

Make them fall if they were airborn. Let them stagger backwards if they on the ground. Give it a stun type affect. Maybe use the minigun death animation? (Slowed down a notch though)

        @DazJW
Balanced is achieved by tweaking values and adding limitations.

i just dont get why people want melee attacks? they do no damage and therefore get you nowhere. close range flak or impact hammer are the meelee attacks of ut3 :P

The ability to react to a situation without switching to a specialised weapon. For instance you have a rocket launcher and someone jumps right in front you. You both have low hp, but he has a stinger. What would you like to do?

            1.
            A. Kamikazi.
            B. Try and switch to impact hammer.
            C. Hit him over the head with your rocket launcher.

            2.
Which is more fun. The knife in:
            A. Call of Duty 4
            B. Counterstrike

I was under the impression the Left4Dead attack did damage and from some googling it appears that's the case. If you can do close range damage with any weapon then what would be the point of the Impact Hammer and Flak Cannon?
Making it ragdoll/stun people would be hugely overpowered, if you're ragdolled in UT3 and someone is anywhere near you you'll be dead in not time at all. Pushing people back is also going to empower the Rocket Launcher even more if you can push people far enough that you can use the RL without hurting yourself.

              Call of Duty isn't UT3.

don't let them jump directly infront of you :P

                also, i would kamikaze.

the flak canon would still be used for taking out mantas and close up raptors. although i wish the alt fire for the impact hammer could like paralyze vehicles for a bit, and have a longer range, since its pretty much useless right now. or, simply make the impact hammer have a bit of recoil with it's attacks.

But if your that close anyway either one of you could use mellee. It doesn't have to result in a complete ragdoll, maybe just causing the person to fubble their weapon for a second, enough time to dodge away from them, it takes time but can be worked out.
