Is a Water Vehicle Map Being Developed?

Is a water vehicle map being developed? I haven't seen anything about it recently. I wish that I could make a water vehicle map myself - but I'm a noob. What kind of software would I need to purchase & learn how to use? Is anyone still interested in making one?

I also would really like to see water vehicles in UT3. What do you think of this list:
    1) Small submarines/submersibles: I think that the Flying Sub from the Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea TV series would make a good starting point for a modder to work with:

    2) Diver Propulsion Vehicle (DPV) aka Underwater Propulsion Vehicle (UPV):
It is used by scuba divers to increase their range while underwater where their endurance is restricted due to limited availability of breathing gas and need to avoid decompression sickness. Check out this link to see a CGI of one used by the Russians:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diver_Propulsion_Vehicle
    3) Boats: manned by 1-4 people with heavy armor & weapons.
    4) Jetskis: with aight armor & weapons.

Also check out the website for the underwater shooter game "Undertow":

It may give a modder some good ideas to work with.

Please let me know what you think.

Well one map I'd definitely like to see is a remake of a map from the early battlefield games. You were one a Hawaiian island I think. One team started on a battleship/aircraft carrier and had to make their way to shore by sea or air. If I remember it's layout correctly it would make for some pretty fun node setups.

True, it would probably need it's own map....unless.... (another idea) what if there was some way to shrink the character models, their hit boxes, and their view heights and the vehicles so that the levels seemed to be 3 to 5 times larger than they actually are. Suddenly the bodies of water that already exist in a few maps might be in need of aquatic vehicles.....or.. maybe not.

    it's a chicken/egg situation

which comes first, the mod or the maps?

you have to create a water volume, to make swimmable water.

I agree that ships, submarines, and amphibious vehicles would be an enormous asset to add into the game. As others have commented here, it would also necessitate more water in the current levels

I worked out some basic code to make an amphibious vehicle for UT2004, you can check it out here. As for UT3, I haven't gotten enough into the coding to produce something yet.

The bigger question then becomes: How easy is it to add water to a level? Does it have to be done in the level editor, or is there some sort of universal variable that can be set, like Default_Water_Level = xxx.xx ? (my guess is that would be far too easy...)

HAHHAHA If you merge "default" "water" "level", it detects a false profanity where "defaulT" "WATer" merges. Hahahah!!

The mod would not work unless it contained it's own maps.
