Physics mat for terrain

Hey, so I'm making a snow terrain, but it still has a null phys mat. Do all terrains use that regardless of the material? Or do I have to add it to the terrain material itself?

terrains don't support physical materials... they all use the default ****

AFAIK, sound terrain can't be change regardless of the phys sound material.
