Ok, the weirdest thing is happening here. When I try to light my static meshes using the usual point light (with force dynamic lighting and cast dynamic shadows checked) nothing happens. Yet when I use a movable point light, the static mesh is lit. Can anyone tell me why this is?

By nothing happens you mean it stays unlit? Make sure your channels on the static mesh are proper as well...only interpactors have dynamic channels by default if I remember right. Unless your mesh is a moving object, you shouldn't need dynamic anyway, but yea...line up them channels and it should work alright
