    Exposure Control PPE

    Hi. I'm working on an Exposure Control Post Processing Effect via a Material, but I've stumbled into an obstacle. Is there a way to "average" a texture sample into a single value? Say, for example, I took a sample of the middle region of the screen. I then averaged all the sampled pixels together to get a value. Whether this value was greater than or less than 0.5, I would scale the scene brightness accordingly. If I can't do this through the material editor, would it be possible via code?
