Maximum Texture Dependency Length?

What does this mean? I've run across numerous materials that have this message associated with them, and some of them don't appear in game, regardless of my settings. They show up in the editor fine, but in the actual gameplay, they aren't visible. I searched the forums for an answer to this but came up with nothing.

I have wanted to know for sure what this means too.

What I have come up with is it means you have a texture running into another texture like doing UV distortion. so its warning you if you loose that texture your material will break. But I am sure there is a better definition for it.
