    texturing static meshes

I know this has something to do with the UVs, but anyone knows of a tutorial about texturing static meshes?

I try to apply a material to a mesh, and only one side gets it, and the rest remains with the default "chestboard" texture.

    Thanks!

not knowing the details about the smesh you are using, try adding several material layers. Each one a different material and see what happens. Eventually, you should be able to cover the entire smesh.

UV mapping is dependant on the software your using. MAYA or Max.

I personally use Maya and used the 3dbuzz.com tutorials for UV Mapping, I also believe there is some max tutorials there as well. Although it all limited

Couple of other links that may help

The UV map is exported with the mesh and you export the flat file texture lines (basicly the outline for the mesh) to do your photoshop work in. Best to start playing with a box then once you get the understanding move from there.
