Max 8 base player models?

I downloaded the player model male and Krall models from UDN's website, but I can't get them to open. I use 3Dmax8, and I assume from this that you need max9 or higher to open them. (Given there are a number of 'missing dll' messages when I try to open the files.)

Is that true? If so, can you get Max8 versions anywhere?

I cannot get them to open either. I've used 3DS Max 7, 8 and 9 and none of them work in any of those versions. They are full of errors. I'm sure they have plugins and other apps associated with the files that we do not have.

I think they were saved with the max 9 format (and so plugins).
Errors trying with max 8, but just opened like a charm with max 9....

Could we prevail on EPIC to release MAX8 freindly versions? To whom should we send our pleading e-mails?
