What is the best to start with?

now i recently did the tutorial pack that came with UT3
so now i want to start and create something my own
but i still find it hard to create a map of my own
can someone tell me whats the best way to learn and create something cool on my own at the same time as well

What I did was start out with a very small and simple map - something with less room for things to go wrong, which can be finished quickly. The amount of work involved in creating a good map is overwhelming at first, so set any ambitious ideas aside for when you've gained more experience and have the skills to do them justice.

Also it's good to look at Epic's maps whenever you're uncertain of anything. There's a great deal to be learned just from poking around in the editor and seeing how they've placed things and what properies they've set.

some simple advice would be to not go crazy with your ideas yet. When i first started i wanted to make amazing levels with a ton of detail, and i soon found out that their is a lot that i still need to learn. Start off with some stimple rooms and practice putting static meshes together to make somthing that looks cool. also just try to stay patient. I know it can be frustrating especially seeing people release some really crazy maps, but just remember that with enough practice, you can get to that skill level too.
so basically start with some simple rooms and dont go to crazy. if you have questions aboyut anything, people here are really helpful so dont be afraid to ask q's~!

Make something really small. It's not a coincidence you see so many Thorns remakes.

Just mess around with BSP levels till you eventually get a level with a basic layout.

Also, i find looking at BSP layouts from other mappers is quite helpful.

The first thing you should care about is the basics of the material editor, brushes, lightning, static meshes and actors like player spawns, pathnodes and weapons.

Then learning the terrain will be the one solution for Vehicles gametype, not that you could use terrains in DM too.
