Concerning the Video tutorials with the collecters edition

Just to be clear, I'm a complete newb to the Unreal Editor, I tried fooling with my UT99 one, but found myself way in over my head, so when I heard the collectors edition came with tutorials I reserved it the next day. So far its going really good and it teaches the concepts extremely well. There is, however, one little annoyance I have with the video.Sometimes I find that I'm missing certain files that the guys in the video are using. I'm up to about the 4th video and already I've found I'm missing two files they use within the tutorial such as S_ASC_Deco_Fountain01_Dragon and M_ASC_Walls_BSP_WoodA01. Again, its not a huge hindrance, but I'm worried that they might be coming back to these certain items later on and I'll find myself with nothing but to watch, and for me I'm a very hands on learner. As a whole the videos are great and extremely helpful, I just wish I had all the files so I could go along with the video fully.

Sadly, I do not have the Collector's Edition myself, but I've been reading around the forums that other Collector's Edition owners have experienced the same problems you are. It appears that some of the stuff featured in those videos didn't quite make it in the final version of the game. Simply place something else, it won't be a problem.

Yea, its nothing huge, I'm kind of sad about the dragon one though, it looks really cool, I'd love to have it in lol.

I'm on the first group of tutorials and I couldn't find some of the assets either. That dragon static mesh as well as one of the materials used in the video (funnily enough M_ASC_Walls_BSP_WoodA01). From looking at the videos versus what's actually in the editor it seems a whole load of stuff got cut from the game.

As for me I ended up skipping the dragon step entirely.

Yea its too bad. Once you get all the light fixtures in, that dragon casts a really awesome looking shadow behind the fountain

Hmm i find it stupid they did not put the textures on the dvd just in case things like that happened?
I know with ut2004 se they did backup the textures also parts of the map that they was doing in the vid.

sometimes you have to click the "open"tab, find the package and either look for it in the package on your hard disc location because sometimes the whole package does not load up.

Anyone found yet a video tutorial about terrain editing ? In video tutorial 015_Toolbox_Camera_Modes Zak (I think) says there is a separate video for that tool but I haven't found it yet.

And hmm... anyone else found it odd that on the menu to select videos, among those for the Materials topic, when you hover on the 001_Intro_To_Materials, the text switches to 002_Material_Editor ?

                ~K

Anybody else getting this problem, I've saved a copy of my map as DM-First_Map.ut3, and for some reason whenever i try to play the game in the test window, it keeps crashing. For some reason though it works fine when I just save it as First_Map.ut3

Is your 'My Documents' folder somewhere other than the default location? Mine was and every time I tried the in-editor game the map wouldn't start. Adding -nohomedir to the command line fixed it.

No, mine is in its default place, although I think I've found the problem. It seems you can only do the in-play without it crashing if you rebuild the level each time you try to do it. Even if you are just opening it, before you try to play an in-game level you have to rebuild it. Makes sense.

I'm having the same problem, and am rather annoyed as well.
The person who linked me here said that someone found a way to unlock the missing textures. Can anyone confirm this, or are we all out of luck?
