I like this remake, for almost, this map has intended to bring some more particles, realistic elements, special effects, landscape, and ambient sounds in medium/loud noise. The cave area is decent but slightly dark and loud noise. Good gameplay but the bots sucked and my team can't defend (according to the player count, set to Skilled, and that's not a good idea, but still love this map).

    faithful recreation!

    First about the UT2004 version:
    - recommended player load of 6-10
    - nice map with realistic landscape, lava, etc.
    - sky stops spinning when you look up
    - good gameplay but my bots can't defend
    - very interesting exploring middle section

Now for the UT3 version in this thread:
    - recommended player load of 8-16 (seems a bit high, but could work)
    - landscapes are even more realistic than the UT2004 version with more dark grays and greenish-browns and, yes I agree, nice touch with the yellow borders. I liked the smoke, lava, fire bombs (maybe a little too fast), lava streams, lightning, torches, lighting and shadows.
    - sky keeps spinning even when you look up (this is a welcome improvement)
    - I like the fact that the cave in the middle was more realistically dark.
    - good music track and sounds
    - good gameplay, but my bots still can't defend
    - still fun exploring middle section
    - I don't think the map is too bright and it seems slightly darker than the UT2004 version.

I will be willing to add PP to the map when beta is released, when that happens is unknown.

TBH, I follow playercount suggested, one thing that bug me, is that in the flag base, it seem there is many defense point & playing 6 vs 6 adept bots is very very though to get the enemy flag out, specially with the rocket launcher nearby. I had to order 2 bots to defend me to successfully bring the enemy flag to my base or else it's almost impossible. In my case 6 or 8 players max is the way to go since 10 players or more isn't fun.
    Lol, **** those basecamper bots.

    Flawless remake. Nuff said.

I was not a fan of either LavaGiant or Magma but thanks to you, Magma is one of my favorite maps now. I'm not a fan of Flux2. I'm hoping you change my opinion once more.

    Hi there,

First I must say that you did a awesome job about the UV's, really ! Shadows are really great

I like the lighting / contrast very much all & the materials are very well made. The only thing I would had add more is some details normal map to make the rocks dept look deeper, you know, the one you can find in the UN_Detailtex package, just my personal preference ofc but it look nice at it is none the less.

Only things I wish it could be more of them is ammo & small armors (helmet + tights) at the lower / mid level.

Anyway, a great remake that goes in my top maps.

    THX for your work

thanks for all the positive feedback

    @Thrallala
it never occurred to me to add any PP if it was mentioned in beta testing I would have given it a go.

You know that's a good point about the PP effects, its funny because i sat and bugged and bugged and bugged HO0815XX about adding PP effects on his updated version of LavaGiant, (he doesn't really care for PP effects too much) and i never said anything to Thalos about this during my testing .. I guess i didn't also because he had done such a phenomenal job on the UV mapping of the meshes (the main features of the map are mesh) - i never thought to mention it, also i do recall the original was a fairly brightly lit map .. (but some PP contrast certainly couldn't hurt - especially if not over-done) of course still a 5 star remake none the less.

Could be my favorite UT2kx CTF map and this is a faithful remake/port. There are however a few things that could have been done differently-

There's no postprocessing effects (except for when you're in the lava)

The whole map is quite a bit too bright

Some of the fire emitters don't really go well with the lava (the ones you've placed in the lava, not the torch fire stuff :P )

Well that's about it, good map though and certainly a worthy remake!
