    DM-Phera (PC/PS3)

    Name: DM-Phera

    Version:1.0

Compatibility: UT3 Titan Pack, patch 5

    Description:
This place used to be a way station for countless Nali pilgrims.
But then the Great Flood came and this temple lay forgotten for almost a century.

    Comments:
This is pretty much the kind of map I used to play on LAN parties with my buddies 'back then':
A truckload of bots, a handful of players, fraglimit set to... something crazy and just have fun =)

I appreciate the throwback to the Nali - Could it be? A fellow fan who cares about Unreal and the universe that it's set in?

Simply Awesome map! I really like the way the clouds pan to reveal the star field underneath, very immersive. Excellent attention to detail.

We got a keeper here. It's always nice to see how well the original Unreal style flows with UT3. Wish there would be more in that direction.

              Liked:
              - Oldskool Deathmatch style map, especially the water pond "death trap" with the belt in it, that reminds me of many old deathmatch shooters. It might not be suitable for competitive plays, but it's absolutely fun!
              - Nali Fruit!! That's just pure genious. And it makes the map even more unique, which is great.
              - the "gong" sound in the tower, when the Redeemer appears, nice feature
              - Bots are operating really fine
              - the Unreal style in general, I'm a big fan of this shooter, still the best singleplayer FPS in my eyes

              Disliked:
              - No music. Okay, I guess it fits the Unreal theme well, since no original Unreal DM maps had music. But a song from Unreal, like in DM-CBP3-Saip, would have been awesome. And what's probably the real problem is the annoying and repetitive bird sound in the background. Unreal had better bird sounds than that. ^^
              - The ambient sounds volume. The birds are too loud, the Redeemer gong is not loud enough.
              - The ramp jump feels very artificial like in this one conversion of DM-Rankin, I never liked this. It's just dull. An example of a map, that got the ramp jump right, would be DM-Eluded from the HOLP packs, but probably just because the ramp is shorter there...
              - You can't shoot the birds. No, just kidding.. ^^

Overall fantastic map, a must-have for every fan of the original Unreal or Oldskool DM maps from the 90s. And generally I think the NaPali-Theme is a great and fitting addition to UT3, I wish Epic would have done more in this direction than just WAR-Hostile. And nELsOn definitely shows how it's done. Good job!

              Edit:
There's a problem when playing this map online. It seems it uses the CBP3-Velocity.upk package, when it's there. So, there are three different possibilities, either you have the CBP3_Vol1 version of the package or the CBP3_Vol3 version or you don't have the package at all. We wanted to play this map today and my buddy hosted the game. He only had CBP3_Vol1 installed and I needed to download the old version of the package again... so in the end we just deleted this package to play this map. But it's a little inconvenient.

But we had so much fun with this map. We didn't play any other map today, just Phera, it's that great. Best map in a while.

nELsOn - This map is absolutely one of the finest maps I've seen in UT3!!! I think I fell in love with it immediately. You have put together a very tight and small map that has a lot of different play strategies in it. I love the way you've provided so many approaches to that inner core - not to mention the number of different ways to get out of it.

The sniping position up top where the redeemer appears has lots of potential as well and a camper could enjoy trying to hold onto that spot while keeping others away from it. The fact that there is no ammo up there and no health (without jumping down to the beams below) means that it's not a fortress of solitude.

The weapon choices are really good, and the placement of the armor is also excellent.

I do agree that the bell sound for the redeemer could be just a tad bit louder, and the birds are a bit louder than need be. But I don't crave music in the level at all personally - I like the sounds of the battle around me just fine.

Anyway - this one is absolutely a keeper for me. I play UT pretty sparingly due to being busy with work and life all the time, but I sure love finding great levels like this when I do play. Thank you greatly for building this and sharing!

                    Basically this
This map also has the best looking unrealish sky I've ever seen to date. It's absolutely brilliant.

PS, would also like some music
Just don't know which track. Might try ask Henrik if he can organize one of the lesser known tracks from the original composer. Something new, yet familiar instead of one of the "old" tracks.

Thanks for the feedback, guys! (Especially those walls of text! ) I'm really glad you like the map. It's always rewarding to see people enjoy things I do because I love doing them. I might just take that motivation and make another Unreal-themed map. We'll see
And if I do, I'll try to make the birds shootable

Sry for kinda screwing up on the music part, though.

What's the opposite of 3 strikes? 3 hits I guess. Out of the 3 DM maps you have made for UT 3, all of them are definite keepers!

I really like the overall look of the map and given it's relative "basic and symmetrical" layout, it's still fun to play. I think adding the redeemer works well. It's also fun to jump down from the top and land in the water (with out hitting something).

Sometimes the sounds are a bit loud (as I can't hear footsteps at times). You should also add blocking volumes around your map so people can't spectate out of the playable area (as it will reveal the map as a "movie set" of sorts, even though it is).

Great work and I hope to see another map from you some time in the future.

EDIT: Forgot to mention how the great the custom health pickups are. Nice to some that little bit of extra coolness in a map.
