Hi, I am having some trouble with RBTTNews. I created the news folder and put a txt file inside. I typed a couple of paragraphs with spaces between each paragraph, however, in the game it shows as one big paragraph.

Not to mention, there are a few weird looking characters that I didn't type that appear randomly throughout the paragraph.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    -Neil

Could you post the contents your txt file, and a screenshot of how RBTTNews displays it?

        Sure, here's the text file:

Hmm.. I'm not sure what's wrong.

The only difference I can find with this (Look at the _source_) is that you have the page and title tags on two lines.

Try using http://rbthinktank.com/~ut3/RBTTNews/readnews.php as the source of your news, and see if that does work

Okay, originally I was linking to the readnews.php from the "UTRBTTNews.ini". This php file was a direct copy paste from the template on the first page of this thread.

I changed the readnews.php looks like this:
            http://pastebin.com/6xNFHi8n

This caused the weird letter glitch to go away, but I still have the issue of it being one huge paragraph:

I tried your php file above and it didn't work. I got a 404. So I tried http://www.rbthinktank.com/RBUT3ServerNews/readnews.php

This worked perfectly. I wonder if the problem is my website?

Okay so I tried my PHP file on my server's redirect. Same thing happened. Huge paragraph of text.

I'm losing my mind. Your PHP file works fine, but my PHP doesn't. This doesn't make any sense.

Edit: Okay, I am 100% positive this is a server issue. I tried replacing the text in my readnews.php file with this:

                Code:
                <page>0</page><title>Search: David Carradine</title>
The world is still confused by the death of actor David Carradine, who was found in a Bangkok hotel room on June 4. Was it suicide? An accident? Murder? We look at the death -- and life -- of an unforgettable man.

His death: Carradine was found dead in his hotel room closet, but the cause of death is unclear. He was naked and had a cord wrapped around his neck and genitals. Where is the hotel? Some reports say he was wearing a wig and women's clothes.

Theories: No one knows what really happened. Initially, reports said that the 72-year-old had committed suicide, but some close to him maintained that was wrong. Now, one of his ex-wives is claiming he has a long history of "deviant sexual behavior." It's been said that he may have died while attempting autoerotic asphyxiation. What is that?

Another theory: The "kung fu mafia" killed him. That's the thought. The same group is suspected of killing another famous actor. Who?

The photo: The controversial leaking of the photo has his family upset. Which paper published it?

More about his career and family:

His most popular TV role: Carradine will forever be linked to his role of Kwai Chang Caine, whom he played in the series "Kung Fu." The show -- and Carradine -- developed a cult following.

His most popular movie role: He acted for Martin Scorsese and Ingmar Bergman (find his complete filmography), but his role as Bill in Quentin Tarantino's "Kill Bill" revived his career and earned him a Golden Globe award.

His books: Carradine kept a diary while on the set of "Kill Bill," which was later published as a book. It was the third book he authored. What are the others?

His acting family: Carradine was part of a legendary acting family. (See photos of him throughout his career.) His father, John, was famous for his roles in Westerns and horror flicks. Then there are his half-brothers, Keith, Robert and Michael Bowen, who also appeared in "Kill Bill." (Which character?) His niece, Ever, is also an actress.

His wives: Carradine was married five times, first to Donna Lee Brecht, then Linda Gilbert, Gail Jensen, Marina Anderson and Anne Bierman.

His children: He is survived by daughters Calista, Kansas, Amanda, Madeline and Olivia; and sons Max and Tom.
This resulted in one huge paragraph. The question is, if this is indeed a server issue, how do I go about fixing this?

Can you give me a link to news on your server then? Maybe there's an issue with carriage returns. Windows uses two symbols for a carriage return and UNIX only one, I have no idea if this is what's causing it, or even capable of cause it But still I'd like to look at what your server displays to me

                    http://fale.site.nfoservers.com/fail...t/readnews.php

This still has the David Carradine stuff in it.

I don't know if this is important, but I am using notepad++ to edit my php file.

Alright, it seems I was right, it's the carriage return. In notepad++ if you enable 'Show all characters' it'll show in your file [CR] for each carriagereturn, but in the file from rbthinktank.com it shows [LF]

I suggest trying to create a file with regular notepad, since it uses windows' standard of using both CR and LF.

You can also try right clicking this link, and saving it instead of copying it: http://rbthinktank.com/~ut3/RBTTNews/readnews.php
Then put it on your server

That did the trick! I'll use notepad from now on when I edit the php file. But I shouldn't have to do that. Is there anyway that you can add support for CR or is that outside of your abilities?

                        Thanks,
                        -Neil

                          Glad that worked

I don't know if I can change it, I don't remember how I implemented the lines, and I don't intend on updating this mutator

I'm glad it works, have fun!
