    Hooray! This marks the completion of my first map for any UT, at least a level where I'm comfortable giving it the final release tag. I did this level because I was shocked there wasn't one available that I was happy with. Hopefully this does the level justice, I think I got the "feel" of it right, so hopefully the rest is up to the standard of the previous levels. This is a remake, done from scratch (well I did snag the fire out of a stock WAR level, so not totally), all done with the editor with only stock assets. I set out to deliver near-retail quality, and hopefully I've done that. I would love to hear if there is anything I could have done better...

      Looks awesome. Good ceiling, too, and if you ask me, a map's ceiling is a strong indicator for its overall quality. Shows that the mapper has a developed sense of aesthetics.

            Just got done playing this epic map. Must give mad kudos. Not only did you continue the one map that has been around since the first Unreal, but you did so with such detail and beauty that (dare I say it) wasn't even present in the UT2k4 version! Well done d3tox.

              This makes me seriously consider coming back to UT3 again. Awesome pictures.

              I must ask: Why are remakes more appreciated than other new maps?

                Honestly, my opinion on this is that when it comes to maps, most people concentrate on the visuals moreso than the gameplay element. When it comes to online play, the gameplay is embraced over visuals, as most of the players out there tweak their settings to get the game running as smoothly as possible. One only has to look at the HOLP (low poly)maps to see popularity in custom maps. CTF wise, 3 of my favorites are custom, and they are holp maps. If a map is designed for good teamplay, its gonna get the props it deserves from the online community. I did this one solely for the gameplay, and used it as an experience in getting the visuals I wanted after scaling it properly.

                Jane can testify to the # of builds, as I believe he's pretty much seen them all, as I wanted this map to be good enough for ladders, leagues, and pubs.

                I think I can speak for the competitive community on this one, but if you want to make sure you're gameplay on a map is good, find a team or 2 to test it. Find Jane, myself, hotcake, Izzi and anyone else willing to play it in #ut3pugs.

                    I´ve just had massive frame drops from 150+ to 30 at many places.

                    But I´m running STEAM, GameSpy Arcade, the QuakeLive webpage and well as TeamSpeak in the background. So that might have caused a bit of the problems but still massive drops. Might try tomorrow again the PC is freshly booted

                        EDIT:

                        OK, that´s pretty sick now!
                        I found out that everything is alright when I start my normal UT3 installation (200+ FPS) but when I start the steamworks installation the frames are quite lowish as mentioned yesterday already.
                        I wonder why that is ´cos the game is loading the same *.ini files in "My Documents (etc.)".

                        Does anyone have a good explanation for that?



                        EDIT #2:

                        I think I found out why the frames were lowish.
                        I was taking part in the STEAM beta programe, I unchecked that option and restarted STEAM. Now everythings is alright again. The only bug I found was the black lifts ´cos of the low details (1 & 1 in advanced video options).

                          Wow this is looking and playing really sweet now. Congrats on getting it done! I was going to suggest in the beta to move the lights out of the middle of the hallway floors, and move them to the sides (and make them smaller). You end ended up doing that exactly the way I had it in my head!

                            Freaking great. The map is simply awesome. (Could have some Necris pipes(?)). And it's actually what I think a remake should be: Reminding the old ones but updated in therms of design, graphics, gameplay... What I have to say is: I'm cursed... I'm addicted to this map.

                              That being said, due to the overwhelmingly positive feedback I've seen on this, I have considered maybe going through this one last time with some optimizations and possibly a couple graphical tweaks (necris pipes) and labeling DM-CurseV-ME (MSUC Edition). I hadnt considered entering it, but maybe I will when Phase 3 rolls around.
