    CTF-THOR_BOWL [RC3] [pics] [download]


    Name: CTF-THOR_BOWL

    Compatibility: UnrealEd v2.1 - Titan pack




    Description:
    THOR BOWL, a great round of the "BR World Championship" has ended.
    Following the Grand Final, some survivors decided to use the stadium to set up a Special event...
    Seems like loosers claims revenge !

    This is the reversed CTF version of BR-THOR_BOWL.




    Changelog since RC2:

    - New THOR BOWL (Trophy design), approved by Gussie[MK]
    - Team bases are 1 row closer to the field, allowing nice hammer jump scorings. Hope you'll enjoy it Guss' and 1X !
    - New animated sky with modified stock textures and material
    - New sound design. Don't you dare shooting at the amplifiers !
    - More detailed surroundings (fog work)
    - Added UDamage and Invisibility powerups
    - Replaced Helmet with Vest Armor
    - Tuned cover spots (UT3 style)
    - The Red team starts in the Blue base, catch the flag, bring it in it's own base and vis et versa
    - Damage zones (world limits) gives less damage (15/sec), just as a warning.
    - Little less lowered gravity
    - Some general cleaning

    - No more Dickheads vs Douchebags but VISITHORS vs WARRIORS
    - Provided cover spots on the field

    - Up to 16 SpawnPoints
    - 1 more directionnal light
    - Got rid of the Defense Points
    - Lower gravity

    Hi there,

    I've just finished RC1

    Last iteration was more about visual improvements, this one is more interresting gameplaywise.
    I chose to distribute a limited selection of weapons (ImpactHammer, RocketLauncher, Stinger and Sniper).
    You can find a helmet and some jump boots too.
    I hope this is well balanced..
    Feel free to give me your suggestions. I'll consider it for sure !

      Dling now will try it put and let you know what I think. Before I try map I can tell you that I would put some serious thought into removing the Blue and Red Team names. Their are still younger people that play this game and I think that may be a little inappropriate. IMO
      Plus your map may be recieved by the community better also.

        Skybox looks kickazz now! - Good work.

        Terrain work is top notch. - Very nice.

        This map is visually pleasing now, much better than your initial beta's of the BR version. (not that it was bad to begin with, but you've really polished it up nicely)

        Couple of fast points to make this map top notch ace for CTF.

        1. Take the flags off the hills and place them end for end on the field, in a dug out perhaps that you can drop down into.

        2. Reverse the flags (don't tell ppl they can use the mutator, that isn't a true reversed map, all the spawns are always oriented wrong with that mutator, so it screws gameplay, and spawn orientation is critical on a smaller type arena such as this) so your constantly running a flag back, like a real football / arena field!

        3. Consider to intensify the terrain z-axis (high & low) to provide some cover to run up and down along the sides.

        4. If you move the flags down to the field and i really think you should, place them in an area between the 10 & 20 yard lines, don't cram them all the way to the ends or edge.

        5. I think Gussy[MK] has a valid point about the logo's. I'd say names like Visitor's and Warriors? (for example) would be a little more community friendly.

        All in all good work.

          After playing a few things that stuck out were, I think you need to have a better variety of weapons. I noticed there were a lot of rocket pickups and while the rocket and mini gun are my favorite weapons some people still like the flak cannon and shock rifle. I think you need to remove some of the health vials to make it more of a challenge, otherwise everyone will be running around with 199 health full time. I would really get rid of the team name banners. I would put the flags on the field and get them off the hills, it makes no sense, leave those spots for some more weapons or powerups. I didn't like the Golden Impact hammer I think you need something there maybe a lightning bolt.

          I like the grave stones they can help provide some cover for the ppl that want to run on the sides. The map in a whole has a good flow and feel. I really like theese smaller maps. They make for some fierce battles.Thank You

              I tried different weapons on this map. I'll try to explain the selection:
              - The Flak cannon is really effective at a close range and better to use indoor, IMO (bounce effect).
              I prefer the Impact Hammer to play this role, as it is THE field weapon in BR-THOR_BOWL and I like to give it a strong role here too.
              Same reason why the players spawns without the Enforcer.
              - About the Shock rifle, well why not but I think it is a little too difficult to use it effectively on this kind of open maps,
              beside the fact that I'm not fond of purple

              I chose:
              - Snipers, to shoot from heigths or from the little team wooden headquarters.
              - Stingers (mini gun), to clear the field from intruders. I like the blue lines it shows when looking at it firing across the field, from a distance..
              - Rocket Launchers, to add an extra powder smell.

              I totally understand people having weapon preferences, I have my own.
              But there's already plenty of maps that fits their needs. I wanted to keep gameplay out of soup.
              Provide a clear and sharp battlefield. Strong choices make strong maps.

              The health net is set up for 8 players, so there's obviously too much for 2..
              I think I'll follow you and get rid of some vials.
              About that ! Are you really reffering to RC1 ? Because I already deleted a lot since beta !

              I'll smooth CTF a bit. 1Xtreme says VISITORS vs WARRIORS, sounds good to me. I'm open to propositions !

              I like the Golden Hammer ! Well ok, it's too shiny, too blurry and lacks shadow intensity.
              But still, the hammer is Thor's weapon by excellency and thus it's BR-THOR_BOWL's official weapon.
              I like the idea of making it a golden trophy, the CTF event chronologically happening just after the BR Grand Final.
              You might say this dosen't looks like a golden bowl at all and you'd be right...
              I'll try to add a bowl on top and see what it looks like.

                Let me offer you a little "souvenir" shot !

                Mmm.. I'll be difficult to convince about that..
                I like the flags on the team headquarters. These are like tiny fortresses.
                Furthermore, I think the graveyard crossing is an interresting phase of the game.
                While it is quite useless in BR, I like to give it a real role in CTF. It makes scoring a little more tricky.
                Also the use of jump boots relatively smoothen this relative difficulty.
                I fear that putting the flags beside the field, really straighten the gameplay too much and maybe waste the maps potential..
                But that probably worth a try !

                It would perfectly fit the map's theme

                I'll keep terrain like it is. Otherwise there'll be differences with the BR version. And I worship coherence

                  Haha, the honor is mine.

                  I respect your choices and look forward to seeing the next version with what ever changes your implementing.

                  Even if you leave the terrain as it is, and it think it's great, i'd still press to relocate the flags to the fields and reversed, (sounds like you agree on reversing! -good good) it makes more sense to keep the play on the field, and perhaps leave the current flag towers for some special 'off-sides' power-ups? You could even include a few extra obstacles on the field for cover, the middle platform helps as well.

                  Just my honest thoughts. Respect on what ever you decide of course. Keep up the good work.

                    Hi,

                    I have a question to reversed CTF experts.

                    I inverted the FlagBases, but not the defense points yet
                    and their target is now on the other side of the field, which is not logical..

                    I want the defense points to prevent the attacker from scoring (and obviously not from taking the flag anymore) , so I need the defense to protect the ennemy base.
                    I guess I have to change the target so that the red defense point's target is the blue FlagBase (UTCTFBlueFlagBase_0). Am I right ?

                    But maybe there's no point in keeping defense points for this "gametype" !
                    What do you think ? What should I do with the defense points ?

                      Well, this dosen't work. The Defense Point take the color of the FlagBase it defends.
                      So I can't make a team defend an ennemy base..
                      I'll get rid of the Defense Points.
