Also, try a geometry build, since volumes are more similar to brushes than static meshes.

Odedge repliedOriginally posted by Silvanost View PostThanks Odedge...do i need the UKD or Unreal editor for these tutorials?
Keep in mind though, enough/a lot of the UDK is similar to the Unreal editor. The UDK does have new and improve features, like Lightmass, which is used for lighting a level.
One thing to keep in mind though, that with the UDK, you don't have that many stock assets and you only have a small UT 3 type demo to test your stuff in. For a character, this might work, but you can't really share it with a "community".

Waylon repliedI've just released a DVD with the Gnomon Workshop, covering the UDK. Check it out!

I realize there are a lot of free resources out there, but if you like my teaching style, this DVD will be a great way to learn the editor. It's 5 1/2 hours long, and I cover all of the core features in pretty good depth.
Also, great tutorials Scruffy! Thanks for sharing. (Check your links though - it looks like you moved them after posting this.)

scruffy repliedTutorials
Hi everyone. I figured i should share this with the rest of the world.
On my web site are a bunch of tutorials for both UT3 and UDK, anywhere from mesh building, normal maps, lighting and more.
With the new UDK released, i wrote up a Lightmass, Ambient occlusion and Emissive lighting walk through for an easy visual representation of what different functions can do.
Included in this tutorial list is the new 'mesh painting' function and i wrote a tutorial to show how it works and how you can get different effects with it, like offsetting the speed, time or direction of a pulsating light. This can be anything from a street light to a candle. One mesh, one material, thousands of uses.
Also i have a tutorial to show how you can offset a texture on the mesh based on its worlds location. This is EXTREAMLY handy for hiding repeating textures.
