I've just released a DVD with the Gnomon Workshop, covering the UDK. Check it out!

    http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/sto...evelopment-Kit

I realize there are a lot of free resources out there, but if you like my teaching style, this DVD will be a great way to learn the editor. It's 5 1/2 hours long, and I cover all of the core features in pretty good depth.

Also, great tutorials Scruffy! Thanks for sharing. (Check your links though - it looks like you moved them after posting this.)

I am level designer, so I don't keep track of these types of tutorials, but you might want to start looking around here at the UDN site and at IceCreamYou tutorial list.

The UDK is basically a means to create games from scratch. It does come with an editor that's similar to the UT 3 version, but it's been updated. The kit only has a bare minimum of assets to do anything with, so you need to create your own.

The links I gave you are for the Unreal Editor. There is a small section, I believe for the UDK on the official UDN site. I also have a small section at the bottom of my UT 3 tutorial list that covers UDK specific tutorials.

Keep in mind though, enough/a lot of the UDK is similar to the Unreal editor. The UDK does have new and improve features, like Lightmass, which is used for lighting a level.

One thing to keep in mind though, that with the UDK, you don't have that many stock assets and you only have a small UT 3 type demo to test your stuff in. For a character, this might work, but you can't really share it with a "community".

Double check the collision settings, but it should (by default) to block players, but not weapon fire.

Also, try a geometry build, since volumes are more similar to brushes than static meshes.
